Ice skating :)?

Hi! I used to ice skate regularly for a year or two from the ages of 11-13. I had lessons and was quite good! Since I quit lessons i'd only go every 6 months or so. However I now haven't been for two years (i'm 17 now). I'm really worried I won't even be able to stand up! Has anyone had any experience with not going for so long after being quite good, and any tips for me?!!

Thanks!

You may be slightly shaky at first, but your muscles will remember how to skate and it shouldn't be too bad.
Reply:OMG! I had that same scare just this week. I skated from when i was 8-11. I'm 13 now, since January 20, but I was surprised to find out i could stroke, do flips, sit spins, and scratch spins.
Reply:I always ice skate!!Just dont be afraid to fall and try to keep at your own slow and steady pace. Once you get the hang of it youll love it.

Later! ;P
Reply:I stopped figure skating for 6 years! People have told me that I'm more graceful on skates than on my feet walking. I recently started skating again, and even for me, it was kind of awkward. You will be very uncomfortable for the first few laps, and you may have to reteach yourself how to crossover or stroke, but you'll get it back. It's kind of like riding a bike.
Reply:Well.....

Make sure you review all of the ice-skating basics such as the 3-step turn, the choctaw, and the mohawk, and the waltz jump. Also learn how to skate backwards again and do the two-footed spin in second position before you do any advanced spins (like the camel spin or the cannonball spin).

When you get better, you can try some of the other difficult moves like the single lutz or the single toe loop, and also try a straight-line footwork routine.

Hope that all of that gets your ice skating on track.
Reply:I can deff. relate to this!! I am 20 years old and i've been skating since i was 6 years old. I was a competitive synchro skater (i just quit this year) and i've traveled the world in competitions.

I went from skating 10-15hours a week to not skating at all!!! So when i got back on the ice after 6-10months it was deffinetly hard. I no longer had ANY of the skills i use to have and it felt really shitty to have worked for so many years and now it was all lost. However i am now skating twice a week, nothing too hard, just for fun, and it is comming back. So trust me it will come back if you want it too. It will be hard at the beginning but after a while you'll notice you feel like you have more balance and you'll start doing what you used to do!!

Dont worry and just go out and have fun!!! Just dont put any pressure on yourself.... Enjoy the feel of the ice and you'll do fine.

You won't have all the skills you used to have, but you'll still be able to skate.
