Starting ice skating lessons next week! Help Please!?
*what do i expect? What will happen?

As some others have said, the very beginning may be stuff off the ice - about getting the right fitting skates, falling, etc. It's possible you will be standing around listening a lot more than skating - so do dress warmly - with gloves for sure as hands tend to freeze no matter what!

What will happen? You just might get addicted to skating like a bunch of us did and you'll want more and more lessons and can't get enough of skating - hee hee!! I really hope you will have fun and learn things you never thought you could ever do in your wildest dreams - this sport is AWESOME!

*what to wear for pants, jeans or what?

Wear long pants for sure . . . something warm and comfortable that you can move around in - that you can bend all the way down on your knees without it restricting you. Not too tight, but not too loose either that it would catch on your blade! Stretchy jeans may be ok for now - but as others have said, it stays wet if you fall on them! Bring an extra pair of pants to keep in the locker or bag to change into afterwards if you need to - any pants can get wet.

*what to wear on the top: a t-shirt with a sweater or sweatshirt or what?

Sweater or sweatshirt would be fine. I always liked to wear something with a zipper so I can just take it off quickly. Whatever is warm and comfortable for you for now. As you continue with your skating, you'll know and "feel" what you need to be wearing.

*what should i bring? water or gatorade or what...?

That's totally your choice. Good ol' water is just fine. I saved my water til after lessons . . . I didn't want to miss a thing! I knew a very advanced skater who couldn't live without his Dr. Pepper - ha ha - but that's really not a good, healthy idea.

You sound so enthusiastic . . . you're going to have a blast! Good luck and enjoy your lessons!! :)
Reply:I wouldnt wear jeans i would wear sweat pants, or a skating skirt but since you are just starting i bet you dont have a skirt, so shoot for sweat-pants. Idk about your ice rink but ours is really cold, i would wear a long sleeve shirt, then a short sleeve shirt over top and a coat of some sorts[ maybe a sweatshirt] Make sure to bring a towel to dry your blades when your done skating, so your blades dont rust and sure, if you want to bring a drink idk if they will give you any breaks but its worth a try. When i started skating i could barley skate either, you learn quick, trust me and you'll have tons of fun!! Good luck!! :)
Reply:what to expect- hard work and some fun

what will happen - every class is different

what to wear- you can wear a t-shirt with a sweater but you cant wear jean wear something flexible

what should you bring- water is great after class but you can bring it on the ice with you it will be only a 30min class or a 1 hour class but time will go fast you will having to much fun.

you can email me any time here you go yournewbabysitter@yahoo.com
Reply:please contrate on the skating you can do well most
Reply:wear light snow pants, t-shirt with a coat over that

bring water

if you can, practice skating using a high backed chair for balance

the more clothes you wear will cushion the fall to the ice
Reply:what to expect: coaches are serious so they will want you to pay attention

what to wear: wear wool socks, pants, a t shirt, and a sweatshirt

what to bring: bring water

if you wqnt to go proffesional then dont drink sugary water like gatorade

hope i helped

Reply:1. You should expect to skate. Obviously they'll train you to get proper skates if you don't have them already. They'll probably have you walk on the ice and get a feel for it before they start doing anything more complicated.

2. Wear something soft. If you haven't skated much, chances are you may fall down.

3. Indoor rink... probably a sweatshirt or something long-sleeve-y. Outdoor rink, definitely a sweatshirt.

4. Drink water beforehand so you're not dehydrated. And maybe a banana or some graham crackers so you're not shaky on the ice.

Have fun! Good luck!
Reply:what to expect? your coach will probably begin with forward glides and stroking. plus they will most definately work on stops. basic stuff like that

for pants: you could wear jeans. for beginners it doesn't really matter but if you are worried about it then it might be better to wear something that you can move around in easier. dance pants are best if you have them.

for top: t-shirt and and a jacket are fine if don't worry too much but if you have something warm without a hood that would be best also it would be good to bring some gloves.

what to bring: water is best gatorade is fine but most rinks don't like you bringing colored drinks onto the ice they usually don't make a big deal about it but just to be safe bring water : )

Well Good Luck!
Reply:*what do i expect? What will happen?

well if you're a beginner starting group lessons they'll probably do some things to find out where everyone is at ability-wise. then you'll spend the lesson time learning starter things like how to march across the ice and how to fall safely. if you have any questions at all, ASK THE INSTRUCTOR!

*what to wear for pants, jeans or what?

you could wear anything you can comfortably move in. jeans can get heavy and don't dry quickly if they get wet, so track pants are a good idea.

*what to wear on the top: a t-shirt with a sweater or sweatshirt or what?

try a light top underneath a warm jumper; you'll probably warm up quite a bit once you start moving.

*what should i bring? water or gatorade or what...?

water bottle, tissues!, gloves and lip balm are good things to have with you. perhaps tie your hair up so it doesnt get in your eyes and so you can see clearly.

also maybe some band-aids incase you get blisters.

have fun skating! i hope you enjoy it :)
Reply:lol i no how exited you are i remember my first time =]]!!

but you should toatly wear soxs also where somthing soft becuse itll b uncomftorble whene u fall and bring a sweater and a short sleave shirt if u get worm but it gets very cold but teh ice will worm u up

also your gonna first learn a 2 foot glide also how to skate thats the key also befor u get on the ice you should strech it helps alot!

dosent matter water or gatorade dosent matter but i would recomend water

and dont be nervous or embaresd if u fall lol i fell soo many times the first time and bring long sox so u dont get blisters from the skates!

GOOD LUCK! HOPE I HELPED =]]
Reply:*dont expect any actual figure skating, he will teach you how to get up from the ice, how to skate, how to stop... basics...

*if you have yoga pants where those... jeans aren't good... any type of exercise pant is good.

*just a shirt with a hoodie, gloves are a good idea too

*i dont think you will really need anything to drink since you wont be doing that much actual skating, if you want bring water but other skaters might look at you a little funny. tissues are good to bring cause your nose WILL start running.

Good luck!
Reply:expect to learn how to fall , get up and maybe glide as well.

wear layers that way if you get warm you can take some off to cool down a bit... jeans are fine.. sweats might get more wet though if you fall...doesnt matter what drink...but i'd bring either water or gaterade -- something with a lid to close.

good luck skating! =]
Reply:You just listen to the instructor. They will tell you everything. Don't be nervous. Wear loose pants, or stretchy ones. Wear a coat, or a sweatshirt, or a long-sleeved shirt. Bring some water. Good luck!

Reply:dont wear jeans, if u fall it will become wet, n ppl dont wanna see ur butt....wear a sweat shirt or sumthing to keep warm. n bring some water.
Reply:As far as expectations...your class may meet off the ice the first day. Some rinks do this. You'll probably learn how to fall and get up properly, and how to skate across the rink. Depending on the ability of your class, you may learn more basic moves the first day.

You should wear long pants. Something stretchy, like athletic pants, are the best. Jeans are the worst to wear for two reasons. They're not stretchy, and they retain water when you fall. The best thing to do for shirts is to layer. Wear a t-shirt, long sleeve shirt, jacket. Something like that. Gloves are also a good idea. Water or gatorade would both be good to take. Whatever you prefer!

Also, this is a common myth that thick socks or two pairs of socks is the best thing. Don't do this! Wear one pair of normal or thin socks. Thick socks or two pairs causes discomfort and blisters.
Reply:well you will be put in a group with people your level and they will teach you basic stuff like how to get up after falling, how to stop...things like that. since your older you will probably get moved up quite soon

wear trackpants or something warm but NOT jeans. they are hard to skate in and once they get wet, it takes ages for them to dry out. on the top just wear a t-shirt with a jacket or jumper or something

you can bring a drink if you want, most ice rinks sell drinks and food though. you dont need to worry about that since you dont get hot ice skating especially on your first lesson

HAVE FUN!!! ICE SKATING IS THE BEST SPORT!!!
Reply:- First of all they will be teaching you to glide on the ice, and do basic moves such as 1 foot glides and siwzzles. DO NOT BE SCARED! You may fall, but everybody falls, so dont be worried.

-Either wear an ice-skating costume, or sweat pants.

-Wear a t-shirt with a sweater, because it will be cold at first. If you get hot later on you can always take the sweater off.

-Bring water or gatorade to drink. NO SODA!!

GOOD LUCK %26amp;%26amp; HAVE FUN!!
Reply:I wouldn't wear jeans, as if you fall over they can get very wet and uncomfortable to wear. Ice rinks are often quite cold, so I would definitely wear some sort of sweater. Also, if you fall over your hands will become wet and cold, so wear gloves. These also serve to protect your hands a little bit.
