Good luck!
Reply:Depending on your age and where you live: talk to your local figure skating club; join a ringette or hockey team at a 'newcomer' level; go public skating and watch more experienced skaters..try to copy some of their moves; wear a hockey helmet and be prepared for a few bumps; maybe best of all go to the rink and ask.
Reply:That's okay! Nobody's an expert the minute the step on the ice! :) It just takes practice. Maybe hit the rink on your own to practice a little and then join your friends the next time they go.

Just start slow. Take small marching steps until you get more confident. Keep your knees bent and arms out to help you balance. Once you feel a little more comfortable, try pushing with the sides of your blades, like you would in rollerblades, and try to stay off your toes. If you need to stop, bend your knees, keep your arms out and push your feet out to the sides (toes pointed in)....that's a snowplow stop. I'm sure after a little practice, you'll do just fine and be skating with all of your friends! :)
Reply:Have you ever been rollerblading? It's virtually the same thing, I was worried about not knowing how to ice skate my first time around but it turned out to be easy to get the hang off.

IMPORTANT! The ice skates must fit you extremely well, get a tight fit if you have to. It's very hard to ice skate when you have loose skates.
Reply:First of all, you should make sure that your skates are snug on your feet. They should be tight enough that your foot dosen't slip around, but not so tight that they hurt. As for the skating part, try to stand flat on the blades and push. If you let your ankles bend in it will be harder to stand. If you don't feel comfortable doing that yet, you should try staying close to the wall and pushing while you hold on to the wall to help you balence. Don't bend forward!!!! Don't worry you'll get the hang of it! :) good luck!

Am i too old to learn ice skating? im 18 and where can i find a good ics skating school for begginers in LA?

hi! im 18 and i really want to learn ice skating.. maybe enter a figure skating competition if im not too old to join.. can any one tell me if its too late to follow my dream? and is there a school in Los Angeles that teaches ice skating?

Am i too old to learn ice skating? im 18 and where can i find a good ics skating school for begginers in LA?
The real question is...do you really want to learn? If you're interested in something you'd be surprised at the many things you can learn even at age 100. I'm at the moment learning to ice skate at 32 because I want to play ice hockey and I'm so excited at the thought that it's helping my ice skating. I want to be very good to try out for a local popular la woman's team and I know I'll be on that team unless they stop playing any more games.

Anyway I'm learning at the Artesia Ice Place http://www.artesiaicepalace.com/ on Saturday Mornings (8 lessons $115 - must complete in 10 weeks). It's ongoing and you can start anytime and you get free public ice time later that evening. To get you motivated... Michelle Kwan trained there? I don't care it just seemed to have really nice ice(soft ice(hardest to learn on and great for figure skaters), their rental skates are great for me to practice in till I get my own (they have a great pro shop and you get help with maintaining your skates) and you get individual lessons.

Others I've seen while looking:

http://www.culvericearena.com/

Culver Ice Arena

classes begin march 26th

Also check the community section in the lakings.com site for local rinks. Call the ones in your immediate area and see if they're offering lessons. Good Luck and most important have a willing attitude, be open to learn and practice like a MOFO. :) Note: After you learn the basics, your coach or new skate mates will be the best way to find a coach to take you further as you progress. Also keep in mind it's expensive...maybe you can get a part time job at the rink to get free ice time to practice.
Reply:You are never too old to follow your dreams!! I started playing keyboard when I was 33! I would think that you could call your local ice rink and see if they know of anyone who teaches...I would assume they would hold classes there, so that would be the place to start.
Reply:No, ice skating is a fun form of excersise and should be encouraged to kids and young asults
Reply:your never to old to learn how to skate but i dont no about schools or if your to old to get into the figure skating.

good luck
Reply:No you're never too old , but unfortunatly i dunno where you can find a school in LA
Reply:You can definitely start! There are adult competitions you can go into. There are most likely tons of clubs in LA just go on to google and type in "ice figure skating clubs in Los Angeles" and a bunch of clubs will come up. Hope you will be able to join!
Reply:my name is fuaad i was born in 1989 i am from ethiopia i study in china in sex years but know i came back my country to study unviersity! if you can use skype we can chat better then mail
Reply:Dont know about the school, but you are not too old to learn how to figure skate. Your odds of competing at a high level are very very remote. But, for sheer enjoyment do it and devote your time to doing your best.

A Ice Skating Hoodie With Diamondites On the Front?
I swear I've seen these on websites but when I took a look I had a hard time finding them. I know when you go to competitions you often see them for sale. This is all I could dig up:

This is a pretty good link:

I swear, they are so pricey that I would just take a regular fleece that's form fitting and add my own embellishment.
Reply:a- ask them where they got theirs

b- go there

c- buy it
Reply:if you have a skate and costume shop near by you could go there and then if they have them get your name embroidered on the back separately or you could check out www.cafepress.com. they have a bunch of cute skating shirts!!

good luck finding ur hoodie!!: P

Is ice-skating dangerous?

Is ice-skating dangerous?

Has anything happened to you?What?

Is it dangerous in general and why is it?

Is ice-skating dangerous?
As with most other sports, yes, it can be potentially dangerous.

For me, the worst was falling straight down onto the ice one time and cracking my knee cap. I've fallen a zillion times on my knees but that time I guess I hit at the "wrong" spot. I've also gotten toepicked on the side of my knee by a friend who fell and kicked up. I've had tons of minor injuries.

Things I have walked away from uninjured, but could have been worse are incidents like: colliding with other skaters - public or advanced skaters, tripping over holes/bumps in the ice, going on the ice forgetting to take my skate guards off (slip!), clicking blades while ice dancing with a partner (almost tripping) -lots more.

But even though there are a lot of potential things that can happen, we take those risks and continue to skate. That can happen with anything you do in life - either be afraid of it, or face it.

Here are some articles about it, particular to figure skating (you asked about ice skating . . . that also covers other skate sports like hockey or speed skating which has it's own share of risks).

Danger of Pairs Figure Skating (video, may be hard to watch)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CILSr7hCa...
Reply:I split my chin open once, requiring 4 stitches. In general it's probably not all that dangerous, but it's definitely more dangerous than a pillow fight. The only reason it is dangerous is because you're scooting around on sharp blades on hard ice and you could fall down or run into someone. I always wondered if it ever happened that someone fell down and had their finger sliced off when another skater couldn't stop in time.
Reply:Well, people get hurt from playing any sports, even ice-skating. Nothing bad has happened to me but something has happened to my cousin. She went to the national ice-skating competition in Paris and her partner (AKA her boyfriend) were doing this trick and the blade of the skate on the guy's skate whipped her head and she just set there crying and bleeding. It is dangerous because of the blade and you know why it's kinda dangerous but I really recommend the sport, it is very fun
Reply:I would say that every sport is dangerous.... For beginners it is always hard to start as they would experience the ice very slippery. If you want to learn to ice skate I would take a friend for the first couple of times... and then see if you would like it. If you would want to continue ice skating by some good quality boots. In general for beginners it is hard but as you get used to the ice you will find it a lot better and easier and would not want to get away for the ice rink.
Reply:YES. alot of people think its not that dangerous, truth is, it is very dangerous, personally, nothing THAT bad has happened to me, but ive seen people carried off in stretchers, one of my friends almost died. he now has short term memory loss and can't remember anything that happened after he put his skates on. i hav a friend who has been to the hospital more times than her brother who plays football. yea ice skating IS dangerous,
Reply:it is amongst one of the dangerous sports out there yes. throughout my career i cant say i had any major injuries (except for the damaged achillies) which stopped my skating. i got my toe pick caught in the back of my shin once and dug my blade in many places on my legs but nothing broken. i knocked my self out once for falling on my head!!!

but i did more damage with my horse!! braking my finger!

hope this doesnt put you off it, cause if you forget about the dangerous stuff skating is so elegant and beautiful to watch and fun to do.
Reply:Its not dangerous if you no what you are doing and don't mess around on the ice. If u say start being silly then u will most likely fall. You have to have confidence. Nothing has ever happened to me.
Reply:well like all sports it is. Just being careful and wereing good skates will help but like most people you will fall and get hurt so just be careful.
Reply:if you have weak ankles yes it is.
Reply:haha only if your unco.

Cute Ice-skating outfit?

I'm going ice-skating with my boyrfriend tomorrow - and i have ABSOLUTELY NO idea what to wear.

I have jeans, sweatshirts, plain and dressy shirts, coverups, fleece jackets, scarves etc etc.

what can I wear to make me look super cute - without seeming too dressy?

Cute Ice-skating outfit?
I would go with basic jeans and a sweater or a fleece - that is very cute. You don't want to wear anything embarrassing that could reveal too much if you fall down, etc. Plus, you want to be warm!

Have fun!
Reply:i usually wear cute jeans and a hoodie, or else maybe a vest? ice skating is not a fancy thing unless ur in a competetion and then you wear a costume lol

so how about either super dark jeans

or else superlight

and if u wear dark jeans where a brigt colored top and if u wear light jeans wear a dark colored top to kindof offset the colors you know

if you get cold easily then you may want to bring gloves and stuff, im use to the hockey rinks so im usually fine with just a hoodies.

i wouldn't stress tooo much, have fun!
Reply:You can absolutely make jeans and a sweatshirt look cute if the rest of you doesn't look frumpy! All you have to do is put your hair up in a messy bun with a little mascara.
Reply:simple jeans, with a cute t shirt, and a plain sweatshirt ; )

Any ice skating tips?!?!?

Hey :D

I can ice skate and have been many times before. I can go quite fast and glide on one foot. Is there any tips to doing spins because when i start trying to do a spin i feel like i'm going to fall over, so i stop! I'd love to spin on one foot as well. Also has anyone got any tips to back ward crossovers because i can never seem to do them with out falling! Any tips would really help. Thanks! :D

Any ice skating tips?!?!?
bend knees, and back straight. make sure you have your arms in the right position.
Reply:actually falling doesn't hurt if you learn to do it right.

if you do fall, fall straight on the fattest part of your butt because it will hurt the least there and don't put your hand down first because that will hurt your wrist...basically don't try to fight gravity because your fall might hurt that much more..

that said don't be afraid of falling and don't be afraid to commit to a move ...like your backwards crossovers....bend your knees a lot ...get closer to the ice because it gives you a little more controll somehow...also if you tip over you have less space between your butt and the ice (less painful)
Reply:Well, it would depend on which spin you are doing (e.g back spin, cross-toe, bielman etc) but a general piece of advice, assuming you are using figure skates, is to make sure you are balanced on part of the blade just behind the pick. Backward cross overs will come with practice, just make sure you are not attempting them flat footed..you will feel when you are on an edge and it will feel right.

why dont you join a class or get individual lessons?
Reply:Practice is the key...I would wear knee pads or hockey equipment that way if you fall it won't harm you and you won't worry about falling. Small "Cs" are the best to start out backward.. Try to turn going backwards.. I used to go to the public skate at the local rink and go backwards the whole time..people look at you a little funny but it don't matter. I also notice they always have you going left,,around the rink so I try to stay in the cirles and go right. Nowadays I don't have to think about it it just happens. But there is always room for improvement..
Reply:dont fall
Reply:Yeah for backwards crossovers push your back foot back out of the way before you cross your front leg over or you will trip yourself up. Oh and you need to be on oposite edges of your skates too. The crossover foot needs to be on inside edge of blade, the other foot needs to be on outside edge of blade

Sorry I can't help with spins but they aren't something I do too often either.
Reply:when you feel like you are going to fall, tilt the opposite way.. not too much to go off balance.

:) have confidence

if you stand still on the ice, extend your arms and use those to power your spin.. that works rly well. then if you want to do a one foot one.. use your leg (not the spinning one) to push off as well as your arms. tuck you other leg in thou dont leave it sprawling around haha!

but dont be scared you wont fall over :)

best of luck

x
Reply:It's really important that you not do any drinking or drugging before you skate (it impairs your abilities and kinda makes it hard to maintain balance). Also, prepare yourself for the fact that falling hurts and everybody falls. With all that in mind, just go out there and above all have fun!
Reply:If you are interested in figure skating you should take some lessons. It is not easy to learn a spin. It takes awhile to get use to the position (middle of the blade) sometimes people don't scratch the ice with their toe-pick or lean too far backwards then fall. You should learn how to do a forward pivot spin and getting use to the blade or a 2 foot spin before trying 1 foot spin and hurt yourself. Try to look where you are spinning, it will make the spin faster too!

When you do backward crossovers, bend your knee (to get support and to push) then cross the blade over, try to lift the other blade as soon as you get your balance (balance on 1 blade) so that both blades don't collide next to each other which will tend to make you fall. oh!! And follow the direction you are skating with your back straight and position your arms accordingly.

Hope that helps =) Goodluck =)
Reply:If you are really serious about figure skating you could consider getting a coach or having group lessons. Trust me they will really help! I have been skating for 11 years and have been to Nationals twice. To be honest to get good at things it takes a lot of practice and when you get it it is just such an amazing feeling! When I first learned a 2 foot spin I would stand in one spot and whip my arm around I was told by my coach that my one hand was a baseball and the other was the glove and to act like I threw the baseball into the glove (which helps ou to get the spinning motion) and then bring your arms in like you are hugging a teddy bear (which helps you to speed up.) when you get the hang of the 2 foot spin start picking one foot up to get use to the balance. As for backward cross overs those just take a lot of practice but you will get the hang of it and before you know it you will be doing a whole bunch of neat things. Good luck with everything! Hope I helped a little. It is hard to try to explain things writing them instead of showing =)
Reply:Stick one toe in the ice and pivot around it, whichever direction is most comfortable. Try to keep your feet together, and go slowly if you need to.

As for back crossovers, don't try to lift your crossing foot (on the outside of the curve), nobody does that after like, basic 1, and its a lot eaisier that way!
Reply:to do a spin you need to find your central point so keep trying

an easy spin is it place your right foot slightly back and and to the side put your harms to the side of you push off of the foot you have put out and wrap it around the other leg this motion will spin you make sure you pull your arms in when you do this

Is ice-skating difficult?

I am ice-skating for the first time tmr. is it difficult to balance? how much do you get hurt if you fall? is it worth paying $70 for an hour?

Is ice-skating difficult?
I think that skating is sorta hard. I learned when I was five but I come a long way since then. Now I can do jumps and turns but when I do fall it hurts. You just have to get up beleive you can do it. I have been skating for 7 years now.
Reply:70$ an hour?? Why so much?? Either way, its an experience to be had. It's fun but yea..it does hurt when you fall..the next day especially. It's not hard but it is kinda slippery especially right after they smooth the ice. Balance is usually ok, but i would hold on to something when your starting just to be safe. And if you fall, you will be in pain (especially if you do it like 5 times and hard like my first time) I actually had a bruise on my butt! but it was fun though. Make sure you wear long socks though!! I got some permanent scars from the skates tearing into my ankles! After being on the skates for a couple of hours, if your skin is touching the plastic of the skate around your calf and ankle it will tear really bad..Just precautions though..Its actually really fun though. Especially if you go with friends that you can play around with and freak out :)
Reply:IT IS NOT worth $70 an hour!

I payed about $11 just to get in, for unlimited time

It's like roller blading.

But if you fall, keep your fists closed because it is common for people to get sliced fingers if they don't.

And don't break your fall with your arms, as you wouldn't want to break one :)
Reply:noo way thats to much money! lessons should cost $30 tops. well ours are about £15 over here.
Reply:It's easy once you get started and that is very expensive!
Reply:Do you mean you will have an instructor for an hour and he will teach you for that hour?

or

Do you mean you will pay $70 an hour for an open skate?

Either way, $70 is WAY TOO MUCH. I don't care who is teaching you or where you are.

If you've never skated before (which you said you haven't) then skating will be difficult for the first time. I suggest wearing knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards under your clothing (no worries, no one will even know you have them on - well maybe the wrist guards, but who cares?) You might want to wear a helmet as well. Have someone close by you on one side and on the other side stay close to the side bar. It's best to go with someone who has skated before, therefore, s/he can give you some good pointers.

Keep you head up, don't look down.

Keep a positive attitude. (I went skiing for the first time yesterday. My first two runs were horrible, then I finally got the hang of it and was going down the difficult hills...just stay positive).

Good luck!
Reply:NOO WAYY! Its totally easyy!

Especially if you know how to rollerblade.

It kinda depends on how well you can balance...

But when I first started ice skating it felt as if i've been ice skating forever...

Just give it a shot.

But maybe try somewhere else... cause $70 is wayy too expensive.
Reply:$70?!! O_O

But its heaps fun!! I cant ice skate but i've been a few time... put me on the ice and in a few minutes i can skate!! It is hard to balence but dont freak, just makes things worse!!

Have fun!!
Reply:dont pay $70 thats to much

public sessions are 3.50 for 3 hours where i skate

and training sessions are $15 for an hour
Reply:where r u paying $70 for an hour and how many people r goin'!?! thats crazy speak $70!!: o

u don't get hurt too bad u may get bruises or be a wee bit sore the nex day but it is all worth it!!! no matter wut anyone says it's not like roller bladin'!! It is so much fun though!! plus if ur friends r goin' the nex day u can laugh if u fell down or the time u had!! It is a little hard 2 balance so it's ok if u stick 2 the wall it's understandable. remember ice skating is its own thing so don't go out there and start trying 2 act like ur roller bladin' cuz it doesn't work.

good luck with ur skating!!!: )
Reply:I'm pretty sure the $70 an hour is for if you want the ice all to yourself. Thats what people pay to rent ice time for hockey, figure skating, and birthday party type things. Most rinks have public skating times open to the public for about $3, although there will be a lot of people on the ice. No its not too hard to balance, just stay near the wall and don't go to fast when you first start. When you push with your feet, don't use the toe pick (the sharp teeth at the front of the blade) to push. Push with the blade.

To turn lean both your skates to the right or left as your moving ans you will turn. To stop bring your toes into a V. As long as you don't go to fast it won't hurt much if you fall. Make sure to wear gloves so when you fall you can use your hands to help yourself up. And wear above the ankle socks so yu don't get blisters.

Have fun!
Reply:not once you get the hang of it, its fun but not worth that price- waaay too expensive.

at first you can just hold on the the sides if you can balance, and you dont get too hurt if you fall down, just make sure you dont let your hands stick out if you fall, try to land on your hands do they dont get sliced by other peoples ice skates.
Reply:Ice skating is easy... even small children can quickly learn. But, 70 bucks an hour?! Who is ripping you off? You cannot possibly be talking about a public ice rink. As for getting hurt when falling, the only thing you can hurt is your head -- if you are worried about THAT, wear a helmet.
Reply:sure looks like it's prety hard

GOING ICE SKATING TEE-ee click here?

Hi, I'm 18 cute and all. I'm going ice skating on Sat. If I see a pretty girl(single) and I would like to talk to her, how would I approache her? Some tips please, of what to say ladies.

GOING ICE SKATING TEE-ee click here?
Accidentally (and gently!) crash into her and help her up. Start a conversation and let it go from there. If she's not interested, it will be quite obvious.

Now obviously, you can't do this over and over because you'll look like a retard crashing into all the pretty girls. Try approaching one that is having problems skating perhaps... help her out. You can also sit down and "tighten your skates" next to a girl that is putting on her skates... you can start a convo there.

Be nice, friendly and smile. Don't be weird and creepy though... keep it casual and don't be stalker-like. Good luck!

How many layers should I wear?

Thanks.

Going ice-skating soon, please help!?
its a little cold but not too bad, youd be fine in a sweater and jeans are fine...as far as layers go i wouldnt say go that crazy with them but if you just wanted to wear a sweater you should prolly double ub underneath it a little...have fun :)
Reply:its usually fairly warm in most arenas. although you will be on ice, wear a jacket. jeans are fine if you can move in them.

Who ice skated a 1960's theme?

I don't know if Olympics or what program it was but I remember a ice skating routine that someone did that was 1960's theme that was funny and really good. i looked on youtube but I have no idea who did it. any help would be great. it's been bothering me for years.

Who ice skated a 1960's theme?
Many have skated to the 60's stuff . . . but you mentioned "funny" . . . so the first one that came to mind was Scott Hamilton's "Hair" routine. He performed it in 1996 for Stars On Ice.

For pictures (to see if this is the one!) and some program info:

I can't find this video online - I actually tried to find it myself not too long ago!

More than likely it was not at the Olympics if it was "funny". Was it a guy skating it? Do your remember the song or costume? If you have anymore details about it - we can try to find it if this wasn't the one! :)

14th ice skating party ideas?

its at a public ice skating rink but is there any games we could play with about tweleve 13-14 year olds? games that dont include much, like we wouldnt play hockey because we couldnt bring nets to the rink, thanks! :]

14th ice skating party ideas?
You could have relay races! Or, you could have a ball, and be on teams. Then, it would be kind of like a relay race, but instead of going as fast as possible, you would go as slowly as possible, because you wouldn't want to drop the ball (which you could grease up ahead of time).
Reply:skate surfing~ put however many mats u need halfway out on the ice. skate toward them, and then wen u get close enough, drop and slide....whoever goes the farthest wins! just be careful
Reply:There are plenty of games just ask the owner of the rink.

Besides taking classes, what are some techniques to learn ice skating? Thanks.

How do you Ice skate if you are a first timer, and you are 30 years old?
Honestly, you just go out there and try it . . . whether you're a first timer at 3 or 30 or beyond!!

If even stepping on the ice is overwhelming, try this before going on the ice. After putting on your skates, walk on the mat a bit to get used to being in the skates. Pick a spot, then stand with your feet hip width apart. Standing up straight, with your head straight ahead, bend your knees slightly. Hold your arms out in front of you at 10:10 or 2:50 (like on a clock). Do some marching in place. Once that feels comfortable, step out on the ice and do the same thing . . . hold onto the boards if you feel you need to. Eventually let go. Put your feet at a slight angle and push back to grip the ice for a push. Once you get some momentum going, you can make both feet parallel and hip width apart to just "glide" on 2 feet.

Here are some online beginning skating instruction, although it's always good to have a trained eye to watch you to make sure you are doing things correctly:

Videos along with an explanation (2 ft glide, edges, and stopping would be especially helpful at this point)

An article on adult skating - a fun and informative read

http://home.pacbell.net/anamga/adultSkat...

Taking a group class would speed things along. First, they group by age brackets . . . often there is an adult-ish group so you're not put together with children. You can choose to go with private lessons as well. They will start at the very beginning from tying your laces properly to falling to moving step by step . . . no previous experience necessary.

There are "adult" sessions at most rinks (out this way they call it "coffee club" - usually around noon). It won't be crowded with kids whizzing about . . . there will only be adults at all levels. Some coffee clubs offer mini ongoing group instruction that is included (that is, if you want to participate - if you don't want to you can practice at the other side of the rink) usually stroking and footwork type stuff. It can be "social" . . . a lot of friendly folk who are happy to help or at least understand what you're going through because many of them started as adults too!!

Good for you for starting to skate at 30 years young! Best of luck!!

Me, an adult skater as well :)
Reply:First, make sure your skates are laced properly with them being tighter in the ankle to give you more support. When you get on the ice, take it slow and stay close to the walls taking marching steps to get acclimated to your skates and the feel of the ice. As you build up confidence and move away from the walls, try to push with the sides of your blades, as you would in rollerblades, instead of with your toes. Many times skaters who are pushing using their toes catch their toe pick in figure skates or fall forwards in hockey skates. Be sure to keep a slight knee bend (to prevent you from falling forward or backward) and keep your arms out for balance. Also, don't forget gloves or mittens to protect your hands. Good luck....and most importantly, have fun!!!! :)
Reply:Practice. Just keep practicing. When you fall get back up. I myslef use to be a figure skater. Expect to fall but keep picking yourself up. Go slow at first and eventually go faster. Stretching will help you a lot, too.
Reply:Skate like all the other first-timer's...Carefully. Keep your hands out in front of you, and take one step at a time. Push your feet diagonally behind you. You probably won't even need any of this advice, because skating is just something the body does naturally! It's just like walking.

Reply:When you first step on the ice, take your time and go slow. Don't worry about the people passing you, worry about what your doing. Hold on to the boards untill you get the hang of it. Some rinks even have these things that they rent out that you push around, ask about it. Once you get the hang of it, try letting go of the boards for a couple of seconds and then grab back on to it. Slowly add more time to not holding on and eventually you will be zooming along like everybody else. I advise you NOT to try any jumps as you can get seriously hurt(cut yourself, break a bone, sprain something) and do not try spins as they can be dangerous too. Good Luck with your skating, Brianna!

Which is better?ice skate?

Im thinking of getting those skate spinners. the training equipment you use off ice, it helps you with spinning.

i was wondering which spinners are better. The plastic ones or the metal ones.

can you tell me which ones better and why. and also just info about it

heres a link http://www.rainbosports.com/shop/site/de...

Which is better?ice skate?
i have one and i like the medal one a lot

and i cant really tell u why cause i've never used a plastic one

srry!
Reply:Seems like the gold one is for pros and the standard looking one is for all levels......The plastic one is recommended by PSA

pros.

Pick one right for your level.

:D

Reply:I have used both types, and both seem to work about the same. I don't like skate spinners because they have not helped with my spins, skating and spinning actually on the ice is very different than using the spinner on land. Many people develop bad spinning habits with the use of these spinners. Most coaches are against skaters using spinners as part of their off ice training. My coach always says that there is better use of off ice training than wasting your time on these spinners which don't help you with your spins.
Reply:I have the one-piece plastic one, and it's not that great. It's fun to use, but I don't think it's really helped any of my spins. I'm not sure how good the metal ones are, but they might be better than the plastic ones.
Reply:This question popped up twice recently, here are the links to them:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

I had the plastic rectangle-ish one (same as the one on your rainbosports link). It did not help me personally. Looking back, my spins on the ice were initially quite poor because of my poor entrances . . . the spinner does not help with entrances at all (my main argument about these). Having patience and actually practicing ON the ice ultimately got me to spin.

Spinners can give you the feel of a spin . . . but certainly it feels different from spinning on the ice. If you have good technique on your entrance, the spin part just comes . . . so to me the spinner doesn't aid with the important part.

Just my opinion :)
Reply:spinners are very difficult to get the hang of and don't really help with spins. My friend broke his ankle using on in september ;(

Need music to ice skating programs short and/or long!!!!?

I am 13 ; just started; working on basic stuff like sit spin salchow and happy toe toe. I need really good music not the stuff from ice princess or anything. No words and good to skate to. I really need good stuff so nothing bad. Thank you!!!!

Need music to ice skating programs short and/or long!!!!?
The above suggestions are very good. You can hear samples of many of them here: http://www.sonicedgemusic.com/pcmusic.ht...

They may not be the perfect length for you, but at least you can get the flavor of the music.

Reply:I would suggest going to www.skatemusiclist.com and www.sk8tunes.com and seeing if you can find any music that you would enjoy and feel that you could make appeal to the judges. I would also talk to your coach to see if they have any suggestions.

What is a good way to practice ice skating (figure skating) without ice, in your house?

FIGURE SKATING ONLY like tecnique, balence, everything you need to do for ice skating. (step by step possibly)

What is a good way to practice ice skating (figure skating) without ice, in your house?
for spinns use a spinner

for jumps practice it a carpeted area so if you fall you have a soft landing.=)

Practice a lot and you'll improve a lot.

TRUST ME!!!!!!!!
Reply:Work your routine in your yard on the ground. I do all the time. Do splits too. That helps balance.
Reply:I would think a spinner helps with centering, because you have to be centered to not fall. But the trouble is you can't work on the entrance.

I personally will start spinning in my socks on the hardwood floor. It is great for spins, though you don't get many revolutions. I think my spins have improved, but who knows.

Also, a good thing to do with jumps and really anything is to work on the moves slowly focusing on every detail. Then do a few mini attempts (like don't jump for jumps ect.) to enforce the technique.

I do that with my jumps almost everyday, but mainly because I just feel like doing it.

Plus you can stretch!!
Reply:You can do jumps off ice

Spin on a skating spinner or on harwood floors or tile

Run through your program with the music to practice presentation
Reply:Socks and linolium! It works wonders.. I love sliding arround the kitchen all day long. It really helps your spins and balance. Also, there is what is called carpet skates. All it is is a slipery material that slides on carpet. They are used for indoor hockey. I've tried them and they work well, but have a higher rate of slipping and falling.. Both are extremely cheep!
Reply:Practice all your jumps in your room. make sure that you can't hurt yourself or knock anything over in case you lose your balance. Praticing off ice really helped my axel.

Also make sure that you strech and build your flexiblity and stregth.

Do you Like Ice Skating or Tennis Better?

Well, My Aunt wants me to be in classes,

The choices are Tennis or Ice Skating.

Which should I chose?

Do you Like Ice Skating or Tennis Better?
You should choose the one you think you will enjoy doing! Have you tried playing tennis or going out to skate before?

You are asking this in the ice skating section - so more people are going to tell you to go for skating here . . . ask this in the tennis section and of course they will say tennis.

If you like a "game" type sport where you are "playing" against someone, tennis may be for you.

If you like an "individual" type sport where you can be athletic yet "artistic" by incorporating music and dance - and eventually "performing", ice skating may suit you better.

I've taken both. Tennis just wasn't my thing and I wasn't coordinated enough to ever serve correctly either - ha!

But when I first started skating, I was totally motivated more than anything I've ever tried . . . I was instantly hooked. Go for the sport that grabs you . . . and when you really love it, you'll excel in it!

Best of luck choosing!
Reply:they both suck
Reply:I definetly like them both. I used to play Tennis in the summer and skate during the school year.

I like skating better.. but thats just me, I can't pick for you because only you know whats right for you.

All I can recommend is to go to a public skating session and skate around a bit, and go play tennis at a local park with some friends, then see which one you like better.

Or just try one, and if after a while you don't like it, switch.

Best of luck choosing!

there both awesome sports
Reply:I would do ice skating.
Reply:I would definitely choose ice skating.

I began playing tennis on Saturdays

but then decided to enroll in ice skating

lessons which was also on Saturdays, and

I chose ice skating over tennis. It's a lot of

fun and great exercise! You learn a lot of

really cool tricks and if you go ice skating

with your friends, you will know how to

skate well.

It's just my opinion, but ice skating is really fun!

Is it easy ice skating?

This is my first time ice skating im going tommoro and i don't no how Is it easy could u give me some tips??

Is it easy ice skating?
Heck No!!! The first time i did it i brused my elbow badly from falling over so much!! ( though it waz my first time)
Reply:I've grown up ice skating my whole life, and I find it very easy. umm just remember to glide on the ice, don't take steps like you're walking, and bend your knees when you're turning, and hang on to a wall if it's your first time and you feel like you're going to fall. also, make sure your skates aren't so loose that they feel like they're going to fall off, but it's important that they're not too tight either.
Reply:its not easy, bend your knees and keep your ankles strong
Reply:Don't lean back.
Reply:idk how 2 ice skate.
Reply:no it is hard
Reply:not for me... swollen ankes are not enjoyable...
Reply:I remember trying it when I was real young (10 or so) and I couldn't stay up for the life of me.... I lack a lot of balance though, it may come naturally to some people though.
Reply:ice skating is really fun! you'll love it!

if you've ever gone roller skating its basically like that, but on ice.

if you haven't, well, when you first get out on the ice, stay by the wall, and hold onto it as you practice skating, so you don't get hit by more experienced skaters in the middle of the ice going really fast. not to worry you though, i don't think you'll get hit. don't worry, people will move around you, once they recognize you're a beginner skater, i doubt you'll be yelled at for moving too slowly.

realize you will fall at some point. its not exactly pleasant, but its not really painful either. maybe you'll get a little bruised, but you'll be fine. i'd bring some gloves with you if you fall, and also because it will probably be cold.

check out this link for more info.

have a fabulous time!!
Reply:OK Hannah lets give this some deep thought.

You are on two thin blades of steel, your cold, and gliding on a surface not intended for humans, let alone humans with blades strapped onto their feet. Don't forget you have to dodge other human cannonballs flying at you at UN-natural speeds, people falling in front of you, along side you, and glaring at you because you are in the way.

YES it is hard, not impossible but not easy.
Reply:if you know how to roller blade, then u know how to ice skate, but yeah it is pretty easy
Reply:never tried. Got on roller skates when I was young and fell one time that's all it took

For those who ice skate well . . . have you tried The Pic Skate?

http://www.picskate.com

Just wondering about YOUR real life comments if you have these or have tried them out (the company testimonials will of course favor the product). Does it feel like "ice" skating or is it like reworking your skating? I tried it once when the company came to the rink and I totally flopped over trying a spin entrance - it felt strange. But maybe over time it would feel similar???

For those who ice skate well . . . have you tried The Pic Skate?
Well since they are in line skates I think that they would be very different from ice skating. In line skating is very different from ice skating so I would assume that the PIC skate is more like an in line skate not an ice skate.
Reply:i've never been on them, but it looks like the boot is the same and just with a different "blade". i think it should feel and be different just cause its on wheels and ground instead of blade and ice
Reply:Umm. well, this is an inline skate, so maybe you should ask it in Inline Skating.

Is ice skating considered a sport?

my dad was wondering if I wanted to play a sport and i was wondering if ice skating is a sport?

Is ice skating considered a sport?
It sure is! It involves all the same things as other sports -- hard work, lots of practice, sweat, strength building, injuries, patience, endurance, passion, determination and more. The added hard part of skating is, unlike in what people traditionally refer to as sports, you have to make it look good. Football, baseball, even hockey...it's okay if you fall. It's even okay if you get dirty or bloody! Figure skating you have to make it look simple when it's not and you have to look good doing it. In skating, you don't get time outs or half time. When you're competing, you can't run up to the judges and say, "Hey, wait a minute. I'd like to use one of my time outs because I need ask my coach if I should keep the double lutz or do the double loop instead." I think it's the element of artistry that people have a hard time qualifying skating as a sport....but as I've said before, if Nascar (driving around in circles) is a sport, then skating better be! Actually, I think skating is on the more difficult end of the sports spectrum because of how long it takes to get anywhere. Just like gymnastics, there are tons of people who are in the sport, but only a few actually reach the highest levels.
Reply:yeah its in the olympics so it must b a sport
Reply:Yes, the Olympic's have speed and figure skating included in their winter games.
Reply:Yeah, deffintaly a sport.

The only thing is I wouldn't do it if you were fat.

Also you couldnt loose weight doing it, but yes, its a awesome sport to take up.

(which requires balance! lol)
Reply:YES ! It is one of the best if i do say so myself !
Reply:yes! its an AMAZING sport. its got athleticism, balance, grace, beauty, and is based on strength, physical and emotional. its tough but its so totally worth it.

its in the winter olympics, its got disciplines and everything. i love it! u should totally take the oppurtunity. even when ur older, ull still be able to skate!

good luck with the skating! take advantage of the oppurtunity!
Reply:yup, ice skating is a sport. I'd go for figure skating, its way fun.
Reply:If you ask any figure skater they will tell you its a sport because it is. some people don't think it is but i think if it requires skill, dtermnation, and hardwork its a sport. so yes figure skating is a sport
Reply:Figure skating is a sport and every figure skater gets mad if you think it is not. Yes it is in the winter Olympics which I'm looking forward to watching!! People think it is a sissy little girls thing but it includes balance, flexibility, endurance, you have to be physically fit, and you have to have guts to do huge jumps at a high speed and competing.(Don't worry you do not have to compete if you do not want to and the jumps are really fun if you get them and you almost feel like your flying!!!) lol! You should definitely try the sport at first it is pretty hard but once you get the hang of it is so fun zooming past people backward and doing jumps and things!!! it is fun!!!
Reply:YESSSSS!!! i figure skate and it is DEFINITLEY a sport. it is in the olympics 2. and it is sooooooooo hard!!!
Reply:Yes.

2) Trying to get through a 3 minute novice freeskate is worse for me than running on a treadmill for an hour. . .requires a lot of endurance, flexibility, etc.

So. . .yes!

Beginning ice skating....?

What do I need for starting out ice skating and where I could find them?

Beginning ice skating....?
you will need:

- strong will to persevere

- determination and self confidence

- skates (rentals will do when starting out, your own will be needed when you start things other than basics)

- warm clothes (jumper, light top, GLOVES, nylons or thin socks, sweat pants. or if you're feeling brave, a dress/skirt and tights.)

- money and lotsa tissues

- ice

- lessons (group ones are great for beginners, private lessons for when you get past the basics)

- a coach (usually comes with the ice)

any history of dance or rollerskating will be helpful, but its not essential.

good luck!
Reply:it's just like rollerblading if you have a background in that. many of the same ideas will carry through.
Reply:at ure local pro shop, most rinks have one.

u will need lessons duh!

skates, u can rent these or buy them, if ur still growing, get second hand ones.

guards n soakers for ur skates

boot covers are optional

tights they're a good idea

skirt or dress also optional.

GLOVES! alot of ppl forget these, they are VERY important.

i think thats it, have fun =D
Reply:Well, first you need a skating program so you can take lessons! USFS's basic skills program is called Skate with US, I believe.

Go to usfsa.org, click on the "clubs" link at top, and type in your zip code. This will show you all the clubs in your area. From there, check to see if they have learn to skate lessons.

Once you sign up, you'll need, mittens, warm clothing that allows you to move, a water bottle, and some kleenex. Eventually you'll need skates, but to save money, you can also rent boots from the rink usually for a couple dollars.

Good luck!
Reply:- get group lessons to start with

- go to private ones once your more advanced and you feel your teacher isnt giving you enough coaching because there are others in your group.

- wear gloves and warm stretchy clothing on the ice

- dont be afraid to fall

- always try stuff even if you dont think you will be able to do it

- dont be intimedated by better skaters. they will proberbly have been skating a long time

- DONT get second hand skates. it might seem a good idea at the time, but skates tend to shape to your foot, and a second hand pair will not adapt well to your feet, and could be uncomfortable and worn down.

- get skates that fit you. dont buy big ones to grow into . it will only end in you falling flat on your face

- always make sure your skates are tight on your feet

- keep your feet upright (dont bend them in and just rely on the ankle support)

- always have fun. if skating is a chore to you, you will never get far

hope this helps ;]

Phsyics of ice skating!! PLZ HELP?

I have to do a physics project about the physics of ice skating...i have to be able to conduct an experiment with graphical data blah blah blah...i think i wanna do something about the friction between the blade and the ice but its virtually none....i could do something detailing how the shape of the blade makes the friction less but i dont know what kind of experiment i could do to prove that...........i really need help

Phsyics of ice skating!! PLZ HELP?
watch ice princess the girl does that stuff all through the movie
Reply:u could do the project on aerodynamics. like when figure sk8ers jump. it would b really cool too if you did something about like the friction of spins of stops in skating. if you try skating for once, it might also help
Reply:Gravity still works....
Reply:how about the effect that arm or free leg position has on a spin? works well with upright spins. i know some people who did this and got first in the class...

count the number of rotations in spins where the skater has their arms out, in, free leg down, out to the side, looking different ways (up, down, sideways), etc etc... . make sure each spin in the same lenght of time to make it as fairer test as possible, and repeat each spin a few times to get the average result.

good luck :)
Reply:One thing about the blades. Blades have a very slight radius (it depends on how you get them sharpened) so there are two edges - outside and inside. the outside edges are on the outside of the blade - away from your feet , and vice versa for the inside.

I don't think this'll help, but just in case........
Reply:keep an ice cube on a balanced piece of wood, horizontally in equilibrium. poor some water on the board to keep the ice moving. chart the movement in inches per second and direction.

Going ice skating, what should i wear?

i'm going ice skating with my school in a few weeks, i want to be prepared. i think it's outdoors, but covered.

i was thinking of wearing a long, white kind of padded coat but would that be too awkward? what would be practical?

i know about wearing gloves to protect my fingers. i'd hate to get them chopped off. yikes!!

Going ice skating, what should i wear?
it will be cold, of course. a long coat might not be good, more like hip-length. dark jeans would be good, because if you fall and they get wet it wont so as much. gloves and a hat too, and warm socks. might want to have extra gloves, socks, and a sweatshirt in case any of it gets really wet. have fun!
Reply:I'm not answering your question at all, but when my mother was about 10 she won a scholarship to Roedean (UK) but her father would not let her take it up. (He died before I was born). So she went by day to a girls' grammar school and at night she went out to practise and practise and practise ice skating. As far as I know, she was extremely good, and it was what she wanted to do for a living. But then she met my father, a very handsome sailor, and she married him. So she went from being a multilingual, scietntific, mathematical female to a housewife ... The rest of her life is too horrible to write about. She had me and my twin brother. She was beaten, abused, and at 64 died of cancer, with only me sitting late at night in the hospice holding her hand. What a waste of a life. So incredibly bright. but just at the wrong moment captivated by a very handsome man. How many other women has this happened to?

seatshirt

Reply:Take a helmet so you don't fall on your head and get injured, gloves, ware jeans a t-shirt with a winter jacket you would look perfect have fun! Hope I helped.
Reply:I guess wrap up warm and wear some thick trousers like jeans in case you fall over.
Reply:sweat pants if its just with school, but if you take lessons, ice skating tights and ice skating skirt.
Reply:Ice skates!
Reply:Either black leggings (not full length, ankle length) with a jean skirt with a cami top then a "cowgirl" shirt outside of the cami (shirt ending below chests and is long sleeved) and the same color gloves as the cowgirl shirt. Or long, dark skinny jeans that come to ankles with a designed long sleeve shirt and small fuzzy gloves that match the gloves. you'll 'wow' every1 else!!!
Reply:don't worry you won't get your fingers chopped off (but do wear gloves) if your just going to be skating around a semi-puffy jacket is fine, make sure to wear layers so you can take off the jacket if you get hot. Also for pants wear warm sweatpants/yoga pants type things, and if you get cold easily wear snowpants, or tights under your pants
Reply:For skating outside, I would wear some knit pants or even better, a pair of fleece pants with tights underneath. Jeans don't allow you to be flexible enough and if you fall a lot and get wet, they don't dry very quickly, causing you to get more cold. The tights cause less friction than thick socks in your skates. Friction can lead to blisters. Maybe even bring a pair of leg warmers -- they're coming back in the skating world. They're not a cheesy 70's/80's trend anymore! We're all wearing them now! A long coat might make it difficult for you to move your legs. On top, I'd probably wear a t-shirt or even a turtle neck under a cute sweater or sweatshirt....maybe a longer one to cover your bum a little....that gets cold too! Bring a jacket or fleece -- something you can wear over your sweater or sweatshirt. Remember, you can always take off layers if you don't need them. You do want to bring gloves or mittens. I wouldn't worry too much about getting any fingers chopped off. While I have seen people get their fingers cut while skating, I haven't seen anyone lose any. More importantly, gloves or mittens are going to keep your fingers warm. Have fun! :)
Reply:If your going with your school you dont need any fancy equipment - ideal outfit:

jeans (flaired to go over boots) This is because you will be hanging onto rail at first and probably won't fall over so jeans look good but also casual. (or trakkies for more flexibility).

vest, Tshirt, jacket and coat (lots of layers for warmth) and your coat sounds fine for a beginner.

thick socks (to go in sometimes uncomfy boots)

gloves (can be thin ones)

Remember to hang on to the rail at first and only come off when you feel confident.

Is ice skating hard??

I would like to try to ice skate. But I'm wondering if it's hard because I don't want to fall and hurt myself.

Is ice skating hard??
No, not really. You learn it real fast.
Reply:No hun, not at all~~~I couldn't roller skate but I could ice skate, go figure!!!Much easier!
Reply:How is your balance? Imagine trying to put all your weight on 2 seven-inch steel blades and trying to maneuver. Most beginners fall down at least every minute until they get the hang of it. So put a lot of cushion like a pillow on your buttocks and helmet along with elbow and knee pads for safety.
Reply:It hard.I once fell on my but then my back that my head.It hurts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:nope. i learned all by myself when i was 12 years old. its very easy.

Is ice skating like rollerblading (yes or no)?

well im going ice skating on the 9th at 6pm can u tell me because ive neva been before and im worried !!!

Is ice skating like rollerblading (yes or no)?
I've found that there are some major differences between rollerblading and figure skating (that have basically made me a really crappy rollerblader, while I can figure skate fairly well).

Rollerbladers aren't as form-fitting as figure skates are. They also go higher up your shins just slightly (this gave me a lovely case of shin splints!).

The stopper/break on the rollerblade is on the back of the heal whereas skaters have toepicks on the front of their blade (although a toe pick isn't necessarily for stopping since you can use the friction of the blade by itself to stop).

Since you usually rollerblade on pavement, it's a rougher feel than figure skating, which is usually pretty smooth.

Just take it slowly when you first start out, and you'll figure out the differences on your own and learn how to deal with them accordingly. Have fun!
Reply:thanxs every1 didn't fall over once and i was there for 2 hrs and just to make me mad a load of ice hockey players started to try and leg me up!!! Report It

Reply:Yes and No.

Rollerblading teaches you balance along with smoother turns, more control and it is a definite plus towards ice skating.

The biggest difference will be that ice skates have a small blade that requires more balance skills and the blade will cut into the ice if too aggressive. The toe stop is closer, too!

Will you have fun and enjoy it? YOU BET!!!

Just start off slow and easy to get the feel of the smaller blades then start expressing yourself. And don't forget, ice is Not Soft.
Reply:Never used Rollerblades, but yes Roller skates. It's the same technique, but the boots feel completely different. I feel great in ice skates but I become a complete newbie in roller skates. God forbid me from ever trying a choctaw in roller blades!

You'll probably survive in ice skates, but you'll feel like even though you know how to skate, you feel like you're learning how to do it all over again.
Reply:it varies from person to person. the first time I skated, it felt approximately like rollerblading only VERY SLIPPERY. most people fall a few times before they get the hang of it, but once you do, it's fun.

hope this helps and have fun skating!
Reply:Ive been skating for a long time, therefore, love the sport, and I tried to rollerblade, but if you ask me they're not the same in any way, shape or form.
Reply:do not be worried, its all about fun. the motions are the same but the ice feels different it is very slippery, imagine roller blading on hard wood floor covered in oil. if you are a roller blader however that will give you the ankle strength you need.
Reply:One major difference: in rollerblading there is no ice.

If you didn't notice that than, no there is no difference, except for the blade and your balance, and the way you move. But generally, all you do is glide in both (unless you want to make it complicated with the twirls and whirls and all that jazz!)
Reply:yes it is.

its just a little trickier to ice skating.

Good luck and have fun tonight =]
Reply:no it is completly diffrent. you stop difrent you stroke diffrent. big diff

hair:brown blonde streaks

eyes: big brown

height: 5'8 lol and i wear high heels

and im thin

would they accept me even if i am 18 years

Hey can you help please ice skating?
slightly confusing. But- it depends on some things. 1. your ability to skate, this includes jumps, spins and overall skating. Its not just ballet. 2. your cooperation with others in close quaters. (ive heard that on ice tours, personal space isnt much of a concern) But go to the website to check out more information. I think that you have your appearance going for you, but u might be required to wear a costume. http://disney.go.com/disneyonice/theincr...

Thats the website. On it, click on Show's FAQ's in the lower left corner. Number 13 and 14 should be valuble to you. :) Good luck!!!
Reply:For Disney on Ice they would probably want someone who's been skating for a long time. If you've only skated a few times, I don't think you could get on Disney on Ice. I'm not saying you shouldn't learn to figure skate, 'cause it's a great sport, just not on Disney on Ice. Sorry. :(
Reply:Yeah, you kinda need to have some skating experience. Usually they like people who have competed and are gone overall skaters. And why does it matter if you wear heels when you're on the ice?

Rollerblading to ice skating?

Would being good at rollerblading (most likely) make for good ice skating, not counting spins and jumps? I'm interested in figure skating and can do some fun things on rollerblades, like whatever you call a gliding arabesque.

Rollerblading to ice skating?
Absolutely - rollerblading and ice figure skating use many of the same muscle groups and motions. Leather ice skating boots are very different from the plastic "rollerblade" models - they provide much more range of ankle movement.

However, STOPPING is very different because you use edges on the ice vs. the rubber stopper on roller skates. If you have trick skates and can do a t-stop, it's the same thing.

Jumps might be transferable, and you'll probably pick them up quickly. I think rollerblade spinning is radically different - it uses the leading/trailing wheel vs. the ice skating "rocker" under the ball of the foot. Different balance point.

Switching back and forth is tough - give it at least a half dozen tries in a row before you decide whether or not you like ice skating.

PS - Figure skaters call a gliding arabesque an "Arabesque" or more commonly, a "Spiral."
Reply:I'm not very good at roller blading, but I am a wonderful figure skater so rollerblading and ice skating don't necessarily go together, but I'm sure you would be great at it so go ahead and try to see if you like it. If you enjoy it you could start taking lessons...skating is a great sport!
Reply:ICE SKATING AL THE WAY--feels like flying %26amp; u can express yourself better
Reply:rollerblading on skates with 4 spread out wheels or all of them in a line? if its the first one then you'll need to get used to balancing on thin steel blades compared to 4 wheels.

i think a gliding arabesque is about the same as a spiral.... (correct me if i'm wrong..i dont know much about rollerskating)

i think tara lipinski started out inline skating and then went to ice skating, and look how far she's gone!
Reply:My daughter skated for 3 years and then started rollerblading within minutes of her first try..

I was a roller blader but have never mastered ice skates.

The key to ice skates are the edges. (inner and outer edges) When you can perform a spiral, (or gliding arabesque), on rollerblades, you are doing it on a solid surface of nearly an inch.

When you perform teh same move on a blade, it is much narrower and you are accounting for shifts in your balance by using your edges. It is not the same. Ice skating, in general, is more difficult.

But it is a matter of perception.. like saying that french speakers can learn spanish easier than spanish speakers can learn french... true for most, but not all.

Don't give up, and start with a decent set of blades. (not the $40 pair of skates available in sports giants, and certainly NOT rentals!)
Reply:TOTALLY!!! is the rollerblading like in a line or in two? if it is in two noen you will kinda suck but if it is in a line then you will be great!! that is what I did! I trained my self toin-line skate when i was in first grade and kept getting better and better and then when i was really good I switched to ice skating.
Reply:Definitely! And even moreso because you have the confidence and skills to attempt different things on your rollerblades!

The biggest hump would probably be just getting used to the new equipment (ice skates). It'll just feel different for a while - but you'll get used to it soon enough. You already know how to balance and move with "things" on your feet . . . so you're already ahead of the game. And you know the moves can only get better with practice!

That "gliding arabesque" is called a spiral in ice skating. That's cool you can do it on rollerblades! I tried that on rollerblades and nearly fell over - hee hee - but I rarely rollerblade!!

So go for it - and have loads of fun!!!

Ways of flirting whilst ice skating?

I'm about to go ice skating with about 20 girls and a few other guys. I've only been twice but I'm about average, and I can move average speed without falling over. First time I went, I fell over about 40 times, and that seemed to bring me lots of attention and I got asked out twice !

But now I can skate without falling over, have you guys got any tips to make a connection with a few women whilst ice skating?

I think I know how but I'm looking for a few extra, unthought of - less obvious tips.

Ways of flirting whilst ice skating?
Don't fall. That will get you attention, but not the good kind... girls will be laughing at you.

Girls generally like guys who are confident. That means not TRYING to get attention. If you're low-key and nice, it'll work much better than acting like an idiot to be the center of attention.

If there's a particular girl you like, ask if she'll hold your hand so you won't fall. :) Then, once you're skating, say, "That's not really why I wanted to hold your hand." She'll blush, I guarantee it. Offer to get her some hot chocolate after a bit, go and sit somewhere warm and chat... if she didn't bring gloves, offer to let her wear yours.
Reply:take this from a girl who knows but girls like aggression if you know any girls going ice skating with you, while skating come from behind her and put your arms around her waist and skate together. like if you see a girl by herself ask her why is she sitting by herself and ask her if she wants to skate with you. and just have fun! oh yea act confident even if you aren't women love confidence!!!!!!!!!
Reply:run into them....

I'd say skating next to them and start talking might be a good idea. I used to skate backwards infront of people I'd be wanting to talk to, but I also used to play hockey, so I'd say I'm quite possibly a little above average.
Reply:DNT FALL so that u can attract their attention rather than trying get them 2 notice u... run into them... help those women who fall down n ask if they r k... hold their hands .... show that u do like her by staring at her wen she is skating... gud luck :)

I want to do ice skating at home, can anyone help?

I want to do Ice skating at home on the floor. Maybe I can wear some slipy socks so I can kind of dance on the flooor so it would be slipy and I can skate

Anyone have any ideas for home ice skating?

I want to do ice skating at home, can anyone help?
I actually do ice skating on ice. and trust me, its hard doing it on the floor. You can definetely practice the movement, but you dont really get the whole "feeling" of it, if that makes sense. If you really wnat to do ice skating, maybe you can try out ballet? It is quite similar. Not exactly the same but its always worth a try. I do both ballet and ice skating and i enjoy both sports a lot.

Hope I've helped in some way.
Reply:First you have to creat a atmosphere to creat a Ice. Frezing temperature. Here in India, Mumbai, I know there was Ice skating exibition in a stadium. They Air Conditioned the full stadium. It is possible.

How can I convince my husband to build an ice skating rink in the backyard? He said no, but I want one so bad

I like ice skating and I pleaded with my husband to build an ice skating rink for me and Jessica in the backyard but he said no because they have an ice skating rink in the city but I told him they don't allow pets and I think animals on ice are soo cute!! My puppy loves snow as well. I have been so good this year I think and I cooked Thanksgiving dinner but my husband still said no and if I kept asking him he wouldn't let me go shopping today :(

How can I convince my husband to build an ice skating rink in the backyard? He said no, but I want one so bad
Are you his wife or his daughter? An ice skating rink in your back yard? your puppy on ice? won't let you go shopping if you keep asking? if you want one that bad put the hose on the back yard. I think this is one of the weirdest questions!

Has anyone else read her other questions? Like the answer before I don't think your old or mature enough to be married! Did you get that butterscotch pony you really wanted? Did your daddy let you on the fishing boat?
Reply:Why dont you start building it he will get the hint and you say he wouldnt LET you go shopping sounds like a control freak you are going to have a lot of problems down the road if you dont straighten him out
Reply:bad idea
Reply:I refuse to believe you can be married. You sound about eight years old.
Reply:Aren't skate rinks a pain in the butt and expensive to build?
Reply:I see that your husband has all the brains. I hope you have looks to make up for your lack of them.

If you really like ice skating so much move to Canada. You can toss your pets on the ice in winter and in spring as well.

If you fall through the ice it's no big loss/
Reply:Grow up.

Just go to the mall, etc.

You would not want the liability.
Reply:Right, you sound very very young and... ..why don't you check to see how much work it takes to build an ice skating rink. You sound like he could just turn on a water hose and it is done....
Reply:put on a little ice stating outfit and Flrit a lot turn twirl and he will say yes.
