I do Ice skating and wanted to know tips on how to practice spins and jumps. Any tips?

I've been doing ice skating for 3 weeks and I have previously skated before and next Wednesday my teacher is testing me(again) and I wanted to know how I could improve my balance, spinning and jumping, and dance movements.(Crossovers, Swizzles, toe-hopping, choreography, etc) I only get to practice once or twice a week depending on my schedule, but I WANT TO BE REALLY GOOD!!! How can I practice in self-efficient ways?!

toe hopping stay on the topic...crossovers just practice them over and over again you'll use them ALOT i promise you said something about jumps make sure they have a soft landing make sure the top of the blade is the first part of it to go down you dont want a big boom when you hit the ice spins just make sure your straight up use your arms to swing into a 2 footed spin start with them out and then slowly bring them in.coreography just practice being graceful. If you want 2 practice balance do one foot holds forward backwards see how long you can hold it you could also do spirals and hold them that will also help with balance.....but again crossovers do them over and over again you might even want to try doing them on a figure 8 pattern just to get used 2 curving them more do both front and back
Reply:Do you have a coach? A lesson or two each week will help you. You can practise off ice jumps, that should help you with your balance. There are helpful tools for you to use, like a "Disk" you place it on the ground and stand on it with one foot. When you wind up like you are going to spin the disk will rotate with you. Its a tool to help you with you spins and balance.

So if you can't get on the ice.....there are ways for you to work on your skating off the ice...

Good Luck to you.....
Reply:As far as crossovers, do them as much and as long as you can- your legs will scream but trust me, that goes away with practice. Swizzles, bend you bottom and really use your feet. In jumping, keep going even if you fall- you master it quickly. Spinning- keep your mind and body focused on your goal.

Good Luck!
