Tips for ice skating?

Well im going ice skating in like 4 more hours, and im excited. I havent been ice skating since i was 10.. I just hope its has fun as i think its going to be. And i dont wanna fall, so what tips would yall give me? :] Thanks in advance.

Tips for ice skating?
Here are some tips:

1) Wear gloves and comfortable clothes. Don't wear jeans b/c they get really heavy and icky when they get wet. And don't wear pants that are too long, because if they get under your blades, you'll fall.

2) Get skates that fit well. They shouldn't be too tight, but generally they should be somewhat tighter feeling than regular shoes. And then lace them up tightly. Make sure you double knot them - I've seen SO many people at the rink with their laces coming undone, which will definitely make you fall.

3) Don't be embarrassed to hold on to the boards at first. You need some time to find your balance and get used to the skates.

4) Try marching. Put your hands out to the side, look straight ahead, bend your knees, and try to march (just bringing your feet up a little off the ice) to go forward. Stay by the wall while you do this in case you lose your balance.

5) You're probably going to fall at least a couple of times. Everyone does:) If you fall, try to aim for the "cushy" areas - like either side of your behind or your hips/thighs. Try not to break the fall with your arms (you can sprain/break your wrists), and keep your head up so you don't hit it on the ice. If you take skating classes, this is one of the first things you learn - how to fall without doing major injury!

6) The biggest keys to keeping your balance on ice are to keep your arms out to the side, bending your knees, and not looking down.

7) If you see someone who looks like they know what they're doing (and they're not taking a lesson or anything), you can ask them to show you some stuff. Usually skaters are really nice and will help out for a little bit.

Have fun!! :)
Reply:are you going to a public rink just for fun with rentals? well if you are, i suggest you just ask who ever works there what to do. i'm an ice skater and i've been taking lessons for 2 months and 8 weeks now. i'm in alpha (basic 3) and i have my own riedell yellow ribbon figure skates, and they are white size 8 with dark brown heels and i've only wore them for 5 out of 8 of me lessons. and they are still in crisp (nice/good) condition!! :) i love ice skating so much more than anyone i know!!!!!!!!! i'm upsest!!

i'm an "iceskating freak", an "iceskating-fanatic", an "iceskate-hollic"!!!!!!!!!! me and my bff are the only people i know that ice skate and love it!! my bf has been in it for way longer than me, she started when she was 4, i started when i was 11, and i'm 12 now!! lol :) but i'm the only one in my school that talks to my friends about it all the time and they get annoyed everytime i talk about how much i adore it or things about it they can't understand! then they just give me sarcasm and say in a sarcastic way, "Good for you!" or "Way to go, Amanny!" but they don't really care! they are more the sweaty kind of sports people, i'm an icy sporty, athletic gal. they like things like basketball, dodgeball, baseball, (and they're all girls) and other stuff.

i go to the same rink as my bf, the roseville skatetown ice arena. but my bf's on break for now with skating cuz of her new baby sister, but i'm never going to be on break no matter how busy i am!! i love ice skating, ice skating is my life!!! i used to go to the old, dirty, smaller, one ice rinked, cheap arena in del paso, it doesn't even have a name!!!! now i go to the newer, bigger, better, nicer one in roseville!! and in the new one, they actually turn ON they're lights! in my old one they kept they're lights off just cuz they have a big window to let light in! :( and in my new rink, it actually has a pro-shop where i got my new skates from for my birthday on august 6th 2007!

but again, they are still clean, smell good, and no smugges or anything!! and in my new one they also help you put on and take off your skates, they are really nice, they have like 3 seperate ice rinks for different classes and public skating, and its bigger and its so much better!!! i go there every saturday at 11:45 a.m. oh, and at least the sessions are longer, the del paso one was only like 20 minutes long, or actually 15!!! well now that i think of it, i'm actually going there tomorrow!!! wahoah!! OMG!! i just realized that i was just talking about my self for the past million lines!! (i could probably get an "A" on this story if i turned it in to my teacher, especially cuz i am in 7th grade and we wright like 4-5 paragraphs!!) sorry!! :( well anyway, just be careful on the ice and have fun! have "a-n-ice" day!!
Reply:Wear light gloves, so in case you do fall, you don't scrape your hands. Also, wear a light windbreaker or jacket and something to cover your ears, because it can get chilly inside the rink. Wear thick socks.

Remember to bend your knees, and lean forward (so if you fall, you fall forward onto your hands not backwards onto your tailbone). Push out and back with your skate blade to go forward.

If you need to stand up, kneel on one knee and one foot, put both hands on your knee and push down.
Reply:I agree with everything that 006 said but do not wear thick socks! They will make the skates fit wrong.
Reply:Wear comfortable clothing like black knit exercise pants, a t-shirt, with a jacket, gloves, and thin nylon or polyester socks make sure they are high enough so that the skates won't rub or blister. Use your arms for balance, and just go and have fun!
Reply:I wouldnt suggest wearing jeans, as they tend to soak up water and get really damp. Wear warm gloves and bring thich, long socks.

At first, hold on to the boards, and then, you can try to go a few steps skating solo. Keep your free hands out in front of you, like you are putting them on a table. Dont lean too far bach, just on the balls of your feet.

Hope you have lots of fun! :)
Reply:wear jeans, gloves, longsleeve, and light socks.use your arms and balance And just have fun.

tip: u might see a trick an ice skater does an it looks so cool.please don't do it unless u know how to. i learned that the hard way.
Reply:Wear jeans and gloves and thick socks if you dont wanna get blisters.

Start off holding onto the sides and march.

if you get more confident, get out onto the ice, and always lean forward and keep your knees bent at all times if you dont wanna fall.
