Ice skating?

Is ice skating about only flexibility and strength?

do you have to be both?

because most spin combos require flexibility like the biellman or spirals and jumps require strenght

if someone is not really both can they build it up and become flexible?

Ice skating?
You can increase your flexibility and strength by skating, but it's not a prerequisite for skating. Not all skaters are as flexible as the ones you see on TV. Most have to work at it and participate in off-ice training in yoga, pilates and weight lifting to help. Obviously the more flexible you are, the easier some elements will be. It is also good to work on flexibility because it can help prevent injuries. Sometimes you have to just work with what your body will allow. Not everyone is able to do Beilmans, but they may excel at a different spin. Skating requires a lot of core strength for jumping and spinning.
Reply:yes they can. stretch everyday before and after--especially after (idk y but it IS better to stretch after)-- to become flexible and lift weights or something to gain strength--and running would help with strength too.
Reply:It is not only about flexibility and strength, but it is a big part of it.

Yes there are ways you can build up your strength. These are some things that I do to build up.

Run some each day or bicycle to gain leg strength

sit ups to gain your core muscles to help with posture

splits any other kinds of stretches you know will help flexibility

put your leg up against the wall and try to stand as straight as possible to help with spirals
