Ice Skating?

I recently started ice skating classes, the only trouble is i am absolute rubbish! Is there any way that i will be able to improve how i am on the ice before going to my next class?

thanks in advance :)

Ice Skating?
First of all, b y calling yourself rubbish that is not helping. Always keep a postitve attitude because it really does give yourself confidence. Trust me. I know it sound totally stupid...i mean really stupid...but its REALLY true. I've been working on new jumps and spins recently for example, the sit spin. I start spinning and get down fairly low and start thinking: "Oh crap! Im going to lose it! Here I go....Im gonna fall any second." I do this all the time and most of the time I find my body basically giving up and falling flat onto the ice. (Sometimes this can be quite painful!!! :) ) I have found that when I say in my head: "Come on, come on! Get up Get up! Push yourself up! It's not that hard." I dont mess up AS MUCH. I cant say that everytime I do this I dont fall or mess up becuz then that would be lying but MOST OF THE TIME...it works!!!!

Also, you may want to invest in a private coach because this will give you individual attention and focus on YOUR main problems. Working in groups is hard because the teacher cant really help you all the time with your individual issues so by getting a private coach it will help isolate your problems. ( Ask your local rink for coach suggestions)

Also, in your free time when your watching t.v. etc. do some off ice training. Stretch. Landing practice (jump up and land on one foot). Or just practice balance. Eventually it will really pay off as you venture more and more into your skating future.

Get a schedule of all your rinks public sessions, whenever you have the time. GO!!! Get off your butt (I suffer from the lazy problem) but once your up and on the ice the practice will help. Afterschool find a public session to just try skating around the rink and doing a few things that you practiced in your previous lesson. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, I know this sounds weird but make sure your skates a sharpened with a good edge and they fit well. If you are renting skates you may want to think of buying your own. Comfort is also important!!!!

Good Luck!

HOPE THIS HELPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Go ahead and keep practicing, it takes a lot of work to become good at figure skating. Good luck!
Reply:you can get a privet choach thats what i did now im going to nashanles in 2years because my age
Reply:practice there's no way getting round it trust me so if you want to get good practice at every opportunity ,you'll see the progress soon enough and good luck ^_^
Reply:u should join ur figure skating club so that u can have access to the ice about all week long. its never as crowded as public sessions and at my rink it costs about 15 dollars for an hour and a half session. there are also more experienced skaters that might be there that can help you. you dont have to be really good to join cause there are alot of little kids in my club hope this helped!!! Reply:Hey, when my daughter started she was in a week-long morning camp and she didn't let go of the wall all week! Now she's in freestyle 3 and competing.

It's a matter of finding your sea legs on the ice when you're new. One of the things that helps is just getting out there. The more time you can get on the ice, the better. If that's not possible, in-line skates will help you feel more confident with your balance.

Also, when in doubt, bend your knees more - not your waist. It's a lot harder to fall if your legs are bent. Good luck, stick with it!
