Ice skating lessons??

I want to try ice skating,, but I'm scared that people will laugh at me because I'm turning 15 this dec. And I think I'm old for it if I'm going to try at the beginning...

Ice skating lessons??
if skating is what you want to do, go for it! nobody will laugh at you for following your dreams. there are people start learning to skate at pretty much any age (well, ok, I've never met someone who started younger than 1 or older than 75). you're never too old to start skating.

you might want to look into taking group lessons at first because they're cheaper than private lessons and you meet other people at the same level.

good luck with skating and have fun!
Reply:Don't worry about it. I have a friend she turning 15 on Oct. and she just started taking lessons last April. She started doing competitions now though. She falls from time to time but it doesnt bother her. If you really want to do it, you shouldn't care what people think.
Reply:Go ahead and try some group lessons at your local rink. People aren't going to laugh at your because you are almost 15. They have group lessons for different age groups so you will be with other kids close to your age. Don't worry about it, go ahead and try skating!
Reply:im 14 i just started last febuary, i was 13...in my class ther are 9,10... - 12 doesnt matter cause i made friends with them. but im also short so i ook like im 12....neways dont worry bout it, its fine, if u wanna try it, then do it!
Reply:I coach skating and while yes, the majority of people starting are kids, a lot of older kids and adults start learning to skate too! See if your nearest rink offers teen or adult classes. Our rink will let teens join adult classes so that they don't have to be with a bunch of 6 year olds.

As long as you are having fun and enjoying learning a new sport, who cares what other people think? I hope that you do take up skating. You'll love it!
Reply:You are never too old for skating. Sure, those competitors you see on TV at the elite level are in their late teens or early twenties and have been skating since they were walking. That doesn't mean you can't start and enjoy skating for yourself.

You can start at any age, in fact, "adult" skating is becoming huge as people take up skating when they are older. There are competitions, get togethers, seminars, synchro teams, etc for adults. Adults are 18 and up. Believe me, their are retired folks out there, I mean 18 and up.

There are other competitions and events for just about every age level too, beginner through experienced.

Johnny Weir started skating when he was 12. He's quite the exception, starting at that age and winning 3 US championship titles within 10 years, but it shows you can start skating at any age and get some enjoyment out of it. Who knows where you will go.
Reply:definitly not! go for it! sometimes you have an advantage when youre older, because you can learn things and understand a lot quicker then the little ones. i had a friend who began in her senior year of high school, and shes still skating after 2 years and loves it! shes even thinking of trying out for the ice girls, which is a group of skaters who show up at hockey games and stuff. trust me, the sport is ageless, and you can love it at any age! youd be surprised how many girls start around your age. ive got a ton at my rink. you can sign up for a teen or adult class at your rink, and youll be able to meet other people at your level who are older. it will be great! gooooooood luck!
Reply:Look into taking a group class! They are offered by levels and age groups - so it's quite possible you would be amongst others around your age (you can ask what ages have signed up for the next class!). There are adult beginner classes (I know people who started in their 20's all the way up to 70+) - so 15 is not "old". (Side note, I started waaaaay later than you!).

No one will laugh at you. Anyone there is there to learn. If anything, everyone is in the same boat at the beginning, so they will be comforted that others like them are in the class. It'll be neat to share these skating experiences together!

Besides, group classes are the cheapest way to go!

Best of luck - I hope you will go for it!!
