What to wear to ice skating lessons... first time skating?

I'm taking an ice skating course in a week and I'm not sure what to wear. I've never been to a rink let alone I've never skated before so I want to be sure that I'm comfortable but still warm. It doesn't have to be that fashionable, just functional and comfy. Any suggestions?

When I'm skating or teaching, I wear tights under yoga pants, a cute t-shirt (usually with a tank underneath for another layer) and a sweatshirt or fleece over that. Don't forget gloves or mittens. If you wear that, you won't have to worry about fitting in -- some people are worried about that the first day of lessons -- and staying warm. Stay away from wearing jeans. Jeans don't allow you to be quite as flexible and if you wipe out and manage to find a puddle, jeans will be soaked.

Good luck with your lessons!! :)
Reply:Well, you do want to stay warm so you are not freezing out there, so you may want to visit the rink BEFORE your lessons. I am surprised you are taking the class without ever being on the ice...that is odd.

Most skaters wear stretchy tan skating lessons, a light skating skirt or track pants, and a couple layers on top so they can be shed as you warm up.

Good luck!
Reply:I always wear...

Underarmor socks, shirt, and pants. With a thin t-shirt and hoddie. Yoga pants. And gloves. I stay warm.
Reply:well for the first time id wear sweat pants, or just some comfortable pants. not jeans!!
Reply:I would wear some pants that are warm, a fleece sweatshirt,

(and something under it if you get too warm for it). I would also wear gloves, and warm socks so your feet don't get too cold, and make sure that if you rent skates that you have the right size, or else you will be uncomfortable skating.
Reply:i would wear a sweater, gloves, and some swishy sweat pants to keep some of the water off you when you fall. oh and a smile :]
