Is it smart for me to ice skate because i had surgery on my ankle 6 months ago but have been ok since FEB.?

My friends want me to go ice skating with them but my mom thinks my ankle is vulnerable due to my injury. She is also worried because my cousin broke a lot of her bones in her leg while ice skating. The thing is, i really want to go because i am a senior and all of my friends will be there. what should i do?

If your doctor has cleared you to be able to go back to doing physical activities, then go for it (if it's still in question, call up the doc's office to see what their opinion is as they know more about the extent of your ankle surgery than any of us).

If anything, get the right fitting skates for your feet. Generally they say a half to whole size smaller than your street shoes size. With your heel fitting all the way back in the boot, you should have enough room to wiggle your toes. It should be "snug". When you tie your laces, it should be tightest at the center area where it holds in your ankle . . . with it being somewhat tight at the top and bottom. Figure skates (the ones with the toe picks) would keep you steadier than hockey skates (no heel, no toe picks) - if you are not experienced with skates.

Do ankle exercises before you put your feet into the boots - like ankle rolls. Just take it it slow. Keep your knees slightly bent for balance. Hang onto the rails at first if you have to . . . don't even try to be a show off. Just be sensible, and I think you should be ok.

This is your senior year - you don't want to miss out. If you really want to go, you should go!!! Tell your mom that you promise that if you feel any sort of pain in your ankles, you will stop immediately and get off the ice - afterall, you're a senior and are willing to take your own responsibilities, right?

Have fun skating!!
Reply:if you think that all of your friends will be there when you're sitting in the house all summer with a jacked up ankle, then go for it.

it you can't say that 100%, then i wouldn't chance it.
Reply:i play squash and i accidently broke my thumb, but once i got better, i started playing again. if you love ice skating then go for it, but u should be careful.
