Is it easy to ice skate?

I'm going ice skating for the first time with my girlfriend and I wanna know if its easy the first time on the ice. I used to rollerblade so I probably have the balance, but I'd imagine it's a lot different with blades on the ice. Is it easy to learn? I don't wanna make a fool out of myself in front of my girlfriend lol

Is it easy to ice skate?
Yes, it is relatively easy to ice skate. You have roller blading down so you are already a step ahead of most beginners. The balancing and techniques are not that much different. And do not worry about looking like a fool. Girls think it is cute when we are abit goofy and clumsy. Make a joke out of any spills you might take.
Reply:There are similarities between rollerblading and ice skating in terms of balance and stroking, but remember that stopping is different. If you try to stop like you do on rollerblades you will fall over. To do a basic stop press both feet out to the side with your toes pointed slightly together (like a snowplow position in skiing). Don't worry, everyone has to learn sometime.
Reply:If you rollerblade then you shouldn't have that hard of a time ice skating. I do both but when I first tried ice skating I fell on my butt and I had prior experience rollerblading. My advice is don't try to show off because you might end up like me.
Reply:Personally I went the other way . . . started with ice skating and went to roller blading and the transition was fairly natural. With that in mind the transition for you should be quite easy. If you're really nervous you could try and get out on the ice before you go with your girlfriend. Good luck :)
Reply:Since you already have done some rollerblading, you have some of the basics. Remember, though, that in roller balding, you keep your weight about centered over the skates. It's different in ice skates. Learn to keep your weight slightly forward and keep your knees bent slightly. You will find a slight period of adjustment will be necessary.

Don't worry about the lady friend. Many years ago, I tried this same thing..going from roller blades to ice skates. When I did a couple of falls on the ice, my lady friend got a kick out of it and was also sympathetic to my plight. Needless to say, we had a blast. She was also a fairly new skater and she had some trouble too!

So, have fun! Keep your balance forward, keep your knees bent and enjoy!
Reply:for me its like walking, but ive done it my whole life. its easier than rollerblading, you just have to give it a shot. it usually doesn't take long for anyone to learn, especially with balance down
Reply:Ditto to everything said about it being like rollerblading...and about not showing off. Try to remember to keep your knees bent, your chest up, and your weight over your arches and you should be fine.

Also the edges on skates are similar to those of downhill skis, if that helps any...
Reply:it should be easy cuz you used to roller blade. when i first started it was easy for me cuz ive been inline skating since i was 3 (11 now)
