Who can help me with ice skating advice?

I first went ice skating on my 12th birthday and 3 years on, I still love it. I want to improve my skating by taking lessons and/or joining my local figure skating club. I really nervous to do so as Im scared that all the people will already be friends and wont accept me or make me feel welcome. Has any one recently started at a club/taken lessons that can tell me what it was like or is and one a figure skate/ have lessons and do you welcome new people? Please give me advice as this is something I really want to pursue but Im not sure what the people will be like and I need your help!

Who can help me with ice skating advice?
Listen - I havent joined a new club- but I can assure u that if u dont take a chance, u never will know.

u can never have enough friends- and im sure that if u prove to those skaters that ur a hundred percent serious, and that u have a personality- itll be as easy as chomping down a chocolate cake (well for me atleast). all u have to do is be urself and put down everything if u love the sport. sometimes its hard for ppl to make new friends. in that case, u can make the first step and introduce urself. smile.

worst case scenerio- u wont make too many friends. big deal- if they dont want to be ur friends, they arent worth it. just go with the flow honey. and if they bully u, ignore it, or itll give them pleasure. if it gets too extreme, its better just to leave those losers and find a new club.

dont be afraid, i wish i had that oppurtunity. take advantage of it. :) now go for it!
Reply:i have been taking lessons for 2 years but i still remember what my first lesson was like. At first i was soo scared i thought i wasnt going to fit in. I didnt make any friends the first week another passed then another but then someone came up to me and asked if i could be her friend of course i said yes she said she was scared just like me. And now thanks to skating i made so much friends. So you shouldnt be scared there are people that feel just like you. If that doesnt work you should try to look for people at your school that take lessons on the same day as you or ask one of your friends if they like skating and if they want to take lessons with you.
Reply:skating clubs are great and the people are all really nice. lessons really help and new people come all the time.
Reply:i ice skate too. normally ice skaters can be anybody u meet on the streets. i do welcome new people, and you dont need to worry about what othe people think. just do your best=)!
Reply:It shouldn't be a big deal with people accepting you. I was really nervous when I had to start skating at different rinks around the valley because my home rink was torn down and the new rink wasn't finished being built. I was nervous that the other people at the other rinks wouldn't accept me or want to be friends with me because I was from a different club. I was wrong. Everybody wanted to get to know me and become friends with me, and I think everybody else felt the same way. They all felt bad for us because we didn't have a home rink, but it was a really good experience knowing that some of the parents and other competitors at competitions can be really stuck up and very rude to other people.

I also took a year and a half off of skating because of injury, and I feel just as welcome even though I am unable to skate yet from the injuries and problems that I've suffered from. All of the other skaters would try to get in contact with me and make me feel like I was still a part of them even though I am unable to skate. They also still invited me to the club activities and shows. I think that you will be fine, go ahead and skate you will have fun!
Reply:i'm sure there will people who are already friends. but who says you can't be friends with them? trust me. most skaters are pretty friendly. you will find AT LEAST one friend. i promise. so go for it! you will have a blast!
Reply:yep, i first went skating when i was about 9 but was terrible hehe :)

when i was 12 i met a girl at my school (now a best friend) who started skating when she was really young and did some competitions. she's a real inspiration so i decided to join an all ages lessons class about two months ago. I'm 14 yrs old.

I've found that i am the oldest in my class, and many of the 6 yr olds can out-skate me =) but they've been skating longer than me. i was very nervous to start with and for the first month felt like i really didn't fit in, but the coaches are all very helpful and friendly and the other skaters in the class are too.

i think it would be great to take lessons and I'm sure you'll enjoy them. if you feel like stopping them, wait a month or so and see how you feel after. it does take time to learn something new but its great fun and you feel awesome when you do =)

good luck and have fun =D
Reply:Skaters are generally really nice people. You should have no trouble making friends even if you are really quiet (like me!). In figure skating lessons, it's basically you and about ten other people learning new moves from and instructor. It can really help you improve a lot faster. I think you should go for it. You will probably be very glad you did.
Reply:So i moved, joined hte club, and i made some friends, but then no one else would talk to me. And i have no idea, i care about my apperence, i work hard, and i'm nice and they just dont want to be friends with me. I guess my rink is just mean? They have their one click and if your not it then sucks for you.

But as for you, i wish i wasnt so self consious , it ruined everything, just go for it. If you love it, you'll take the chance because most likely you'll have the time of your life. And at all the other ice rinks i've been at everyone was super nice so idk whats up with this ice rink. haha. But dont let not knowing like what something will be like get in your way, i wish i hadnt done that, then i'd be swiming and i would have started dancing a lot earlyer.

Just go for it, you'll make so many amazing memories.
Reply:If you think you will be the only one who does not know any one that's OK. Because you could make Friends there, or if you have any friends that like to skate and want to take lessons, ask them if they want to with you. If you still do not have any one do not worry. Just focus on what the coaches are teaching you. Good Luck!!!!!
