New to ice-skating?

Hello. Me and my friends are planning to go ice-skating. It will be my first time and I really don't know what to expect. I was wondering will it take a long time to learn? Or can i actually have fun and "skate" on the same day i learn to. And are there any tips I should have in mind as a beginner?

New to ice-skating?
You'll be able to have fun soon after you get on the ice. Skating is not hard to pick up. Give yourself a little time to get used to it when you get on the ice. Before you go out though, make sure that your skates are tied tighly around the ankle area to give your ankles good support. If you feel that your feet are leaning to either direction too much, try making them tighter, or get a different pair with more support (usually a newer pair). When you get on the ice, stay close to the wall for a little bit. You may surprise yourself with how quickly you catch on. Similar to rollerblading, try pushing with the sides of your blades rather than off the toes or like you would walk. Keep your knees bent and arms out for balance. Bring along your sense of humor and a pair of gloves. You'll have a blast. :)
Reply:if you do roller blading it is the same thing but have some knee and elbow pads and stay to the edge i was out and somebody tripped me and i almost broke my arm!
Reply:Expect to fall down alot. First time I skated, I fell down 30 times not to mention how many bruises I got... Hold on to the wall when you first start. Ice skating is really fun. When you first start, skate slowly then as you begin to feel more confident, skate faster. When you are skating with your friends, don't grab on to them or let them grab on to you because if one falls down, so will the rest
Reply:Expect to have fun.

You can learn to glide across the ice the first day. However, if you want to get serious, you may need lessons.
Reply:at 1st u'll fall couple times.then u would be better
Reply:different ppl learn at different rate, just remember to tie ur skates up tightly and to bend ur knees.
Reply:well you need your balence first
