Ice skating for the first time?

Would it be a good idea to take my girlfriend ice skating if neither of us know how to skate very well (is it easy to learn within 1-2 hours)?

Ice skating for the first time?
It's totally a good idea to go. As far as being easy to learn, that all depends on you. If you have experience roller blading or skiing making the transition should be fairly easy for you. The first two things you should try and master once you get out there are a)getting up by yourself and b)stopping on your own - to do this, gently glide forwards and then turn your toes towards each other into an open "V" and put your knees together; we would tell kids to "make a pizza". Once you master these 2 things you'll be off and running in no time.

Oh, and as a side note, be sure to dress for it.

Don't wear jeans

Don't wear scarves or anything you might trip over

Do wear track pants or similar

Do wear gloves, water-proof if possible

Do wear layers so that you can take clothes off as you get hot

Do bring 2 pairs of socks, 1 thin and 1 thick so you can get a good fit in your rental skates

And most importantly, Do have fun!
Reply:I was good at rollerblading when I went ice skating for the first time, and I had no problem picking it up in less than 15 minutes. The main difference that I struggled with was how I stopped... on roller blades I could spin to a stop, but on ice, I kept going and ended up on my bum the first time. If you aren't good at rollerblading, it might be harder for you. I think most people are either good at boarding (i.e. skateboarding, snowboarding, etc) or blading (roller blading, ice skating and skiing), but not both. Still, it could be fun to try out together! Good luck!
Reply:Yep. because if you will fall you gonna show her that you not showing of you just having a good time with her and with your self. that's the best thing that can happen on date.
Reply:I think skating is a fine idea. It is pretty fun, and you can catch the hang of it pretty well within your first couple hours. You won't be a great skater, but you will be able to get around and just have fun. I know a lot of people go skating for dates and they enjoy it. You can catch the hang faster if you wear figure skates because they give you better balance because of the way the blades are shaped. Good luck.
Reply:You will not learn that quick, I am sorry to say, but no. I reccomend you go ice skating before you go out, so you don't look like a fool when you skate.

Here are some tips on what to wear:

Never wear jeans, it is a comlete no no

Scarces will make you trip, so no

Wear some gloves, thick is better though

Wear layers so when you get hot, you can take the layers off, but remember not too wear to much

Make sure to bring 2 pairs of socks, 1 thin and 1 thick so you can get a good fit in your rental skates

Make sure NOT to bring ankle length socks, you can get uncomfortable

Have fun!!☼

Reply:Slipping and sliding is common for first time skaters. You may fall down and if your girlfriend begins to slip and grabs on to you your both going down. Yes figure skating is sooooooooo much fun, I love it! it would be really special to go with your girlfriend...just remember be prepared to slip and slide....it isn't easy but after a little bit of time you'll do great! I think you should go! Have fun and good luck with that!
