Ice skating-stopping help?

I have been ice skating now for a couple of months, but i can't stop myself on ice and I want to be able to do this and be steady on my feet before i consider taking lessons. I won't ever achieve competiton level but it's something i enjoy doing.

So does anyone have any tips on how to stop yourself? I roughly know that u can turn sidewards to stop or theres a way of pushing out on the inside of the blade but i havent been able to achieve this so if anyone has any tips for beginners on how to do this it wud be great!

Ice skating-stopping help?
the way to stop on the ice is to make a t shape with our ice skates you keep your right foot in a straight line when skating and bring your left foot behind the right skate so your making a t shape its called a t stop proffesional skaters use it all the time i used to skate a few years ago and did all my grades up to 10 good luck
Reply:All depends on what kind of skates you are on. If you have figure skate's then you can use the jagged edge in the front (toe) of your skate that's what it's for, if they're hockey skates the you can either drag a foot or learn to transfer all of your weight to one side for stopping this will take a little practice but first you have to become proficient on your skates.
Reply:hmm well i just stop by putting my blade up more
Reply:Why don't you take beginner's lessons? That's what I'm doing, beginning this week. Then you'll learn how without getting into bad habits. Good luck!
Reply:just keep going until you hit a wall
