Help, I always get paranoid that I will get hurt ice-skating is this likely or are there ways to prevent it?
Ice-skating, Dangerous?
Just like any other sport or activity there are some dangers and precautions that you can take to help prevent injuries. Wearing gloves, and practicing towards the wall until you are more comfortable can help prevent some injuries, just like with learning any sport or activity it does take a few falls or injuries to learn how to do the activity. Using your arms for balance can help you balance better.
Reply:unless u wear paddin no, just take more care until ur gud enuf not 2 fall over
Reply:There's danger in any sport. Wear gloves to protect your fingers, and just get on the ice and enjoy!
Reply:Hi,its like every other sport untill you get the hang of ice skating then you might get a few knocks.Good Luck
Reply:Wear thick gloves, thick trousers, and a bicycle helmet lol!
Have fun :0)
Reply:You know, there really isn't anyway to get really hurt unless you are a real skater falling all the time on triples. The way you can get hurt is if some idiot who can't stop goes really fast and knocks you over... Been there, done that...
Otherwise, you're perfectly safe. You could always bring friends, just to help you out. The most that'll happen to you is that you'll just slip a bit. Usually it doesn't hurt because you're going slowly. If you go faster, just watch out. You might just end up with a wet bottom. =)
Reply:Falling over on hard ice will never be painless, and pulled muscles are pretty much a given. Beyond that I guess you could make sure you pull in your hands pretty quick if you fall over coz I doubt fingers and ice skate blades mix very well
Reply:Why not enquire at your local icerink if they have beginners classes? Joining one of these will teach you basic skills, improve your balance and, most importantly, improve your confidence. You may also find your rink has sessions when speed skaters are banned and these would be safer for a beginner.
I skated as a teenager and freqently had bumped knees but nothing worse than that. Have fun!
Reply:Get someone to hold your hand while you skate
Reply:Not unless you fall down. Aren't there rails around the rings though?
Reply:The more scared you are, the more tense you will be on the ice, and you will be more likely not being able to skate. You should either get lessons or if you are just going to have a good time with your friends, just start by holding the wall, and marching slowly. Once you can march with out holding the wall, try pushing out with the inside of your feet [: and then glide. Goodluck! It just takes practice to get used to the ice, remember! make sure your rental skates arent too beat up, if they are, it will be difficult to skate
Reply:it is a possibility just be careful hold on to the wall until you know that you're ready to let go. Don't hold on to somebody else if you're feeling wobbly that's more dangerous even if they are advanced skaters if you hold on to them and trip they won't be able to keep you up. and two people falling means two sets of blades flying around and not just one. So just hold onto the wall and wait until you know you're ready to try something before trying it.
Reply:it can be..
mostly if you fall over tho you will slide which will lessen the impact of the fall. i usually fall over at least once during practices/lessons, even on things like crossovers, and especially on spirals :) but falling is all part of skating, if you don't fall, or are too afraid of falling, then you never really push yourself (something I'm working on atm...).
everyone falls; if you are nervous just stick about a meter away from the barrier (beware, there are often hollows in the ice near barriers which can make you trip). or buy some crash pads to act as cushions when you fall.
its gonna happen :P just relax about it and you'll get used to it. have you fallen before? and did you get up? you know you can, so don't worry about it :) smile
Happy Skating!
Reply:To be honest, coming home for your first time will leave you sore and bruised. Yes it is possible to break/sprain bones but not likely. If you feel like your going to fall, just fall. DO NOT try and catch yourself. You will be likely to sprain or brake a bone. I have seen my friend get stabbed by a blade, a little girl cutting her chin open, and another little girl get her fingers ran over. Ice skating is not the safest sport, but once you get the hang of it, it can be one of the most enjoyable. Good Luck and have fun. Oh and if you like, many ice shops sell hand, elbow, wrist, and butt pads if that makes you feel safer!
Reply:lol i felt so exited whene i signed up for figure skating but the day befor it was the first session i got very nervouse and i thought i wouold crack my head and die or sumthin lol
but whene i got on the ice i was walking and i fell on my but and in 5 min i new how to do like 5 things so its not that dangerouse but it is dangerouse if you dont keep your knees bent and keep good postuere so just listen to her coach!!

=]]
hope i helped!!
Reply:Don't Worry, its great fun!
It is likely that you will get hurt but not seriously.
always wear gloves, it hurts less when you fall.
have fun!
Reply:Put on gloves and a nice padded coat
I don't mean to scare you but my cousin went ice skating with my mum and me and he fell over so my mum went to pick him up and she went over his finger and it was hanging off.
Wear gloves and if you fall down put your hands into balls so no fingers are sticking out. Ice skating is fairly easy so the chances of you falling are low. I go all the time and have fallen like twice.
Good luck babes xxxx
Reply:don't be!1 just have fun . and are u talking u haven't sjated before or not?
Reply:it is unlikely that you will get hurt during ice skating ...
accidents normally happen to people that are trying to do something above their level ... or trying something new !!
don't be worried about ice skating .. just enjoy !
Reply:It can be dangerous, just like any sport, but it can be the most fun, remember that you will fall, even the professionals do, but that's just part of it, dust yourself off and try again.
To prevent getting hurt, keep your hands under you if you fall over, because blades are sharp and fingers can get cut, sounds dramatic, i don't mean to alarm you, but it was good advice given to me when i used to skate.
Reply:If you're anything like me, then the best way to prevent ice skating accidents is not to go. I have fallen over whilst clinging to the side, among many other instances of falling over on the ice, and have even skated over my own fingers while trying to get up - I still have the scars and it was 10 years ago!
Reply:you won't get hurt...... the only thing that will probably happen is that you'll fall down...
Reply:It's probably not the safest past time but it is lots of fun, I will pass on to you my mum's advice she always used to give me before I went ice skating . . . . . If you fall over clench your fists. I think she was worried about someone skating over my fingers and chopping them off. My advice to you is to stay near the barrier or someone who can skate - it's good to have something to grab onto.
Reply:It depends if u go just once a while or if u do it as a sport. if ur not very good hang on to the wall not a friend because if u fall they will go down with u.If u do it as a sport u usually get a hang of it though and wont fall unless you try tricks and things.
Reply:I do know somebody who twisted her knee ice skating, but you cant live life scared of trying new things, you've much more chance of getting injured if you're tense and nervous then if you just relax and have fun
Reply:it is likely, but only for a while when ur stil a beginner. when u ge used to the ice (which could take a long time or a little, it depends on whether ur a natural or not) the risk becomes less.
u could prevent injury by wearing knee pads and gloves, and maybe one of those pairs of pants with padding round the butt in case u fall that way. and a helmet if u are really worried, but usually u can stop yourself from falling on ur head.. if ur still scared just skate round the barrier until u get used to it, confidence will come eventually!!!
good luck!!!! =]
Reply:You've got to fall on your butt to learn. Falling is all a part of learning. If your that paraniod though, you might want to wear pads.
♥
Reply:Wear gloves, that way you're less likely to get the ends of your fingers sliced off when you fall over!
Reply:i have ice-skating phobia too. i am a dancer, and everyone wants me to figure skate but i get so scared!!! always stay close to someone (and the wall)
