I do Ice skating and wanted to know tips on how to practice spins and jumps. Any tips?

I've been doing ice skating for 3 weeks and I have previously skated before and next Wednesday my teacher is testing me(again) and I wanted to know how I could improve my balance, spinning and jumping, and dance movements.(Crossovers, Swizzles, toe-hopping, choreography, etc) I only get to practice once or twice a week depending on my schedule, but I WANT TO BE REALLY GOOD!!! How can I practice in self-efficient ways?!

I do Ice skating and wanted to know tips on how to practice spins and jumps. Any tips?
toe hopping stay on the topic...crossovers just practice them over and over again you'll use them ALOT i promise you said something about jumps make sure they have a soft landing make sure the top of the blade is the first part of it to go down you dont want a big boom when you hit the ice spins just make sure your straight up use your arms to swing into a 2 footed spin start with them out and then slowly bring them in.coreography just practice being graceful. If you want 2 practice balance do one foot holds forward backwards see how long you can hold it you could also do spirals and hold them that will also help with balance.....but again crossovers do them over and over again you might even want to try doing them on a figure 8 pattern just to get used 2 curving them more do both front and back
Reply:Do you have a coach? A lesson or two each week will help you. You can practise off ice jumps, that should help you with your balance. There are helpful tools for you to use, like a "Disk" you place it on the ground and stand on it with one foot. When you wind up like you are going to spin the disk will rotate with you. Its a tool to help you with you spins and balance.

So if you can't get on the ice.....there are ways for you to work on your skating off the ice...

Good Luck to you.....
Reply:As far as crossovers, do them as much and as long as you can- your legs will scream but trust me, that goes away with practice. Swizzles, bend you bottom and really use your feet. In jumping, keep going even if you fall- you master it quickly. Spinning- keep your mind and body focused on your goal.

Good Luck!

Boys at ice skating?

when i go ice skating these guys whatare like 15 tru to hiton me and say will you mee him hes beenstaring at you all the time and that. i just ignore them ( im 13btw) bu tit gets realllyannoying when they touch me when they skate past me

hmm ?

whatcnido?

Boys at ice skating?
You can tell them that you don't like them touching you and ask them to stop
Reply:Learn grammar please.
Reply:what?
Reply:Um, okay. I got 15 year old guys hitting on you and you're 13. Okay. So? Let them hit on you. It's not killing you. I've they start getting offensive, tell them to chill out and go away, or trip them when they skate by.
Reply:did you drop out of pre school or something
Reply:next time they touch you, are mess with you, tell them very sternly to leave you the h*** alone, and that the next time one of them touches you theyre gonna get knocked on their a***.

your problem was that they thought that you were just playin hard to get, so they kept comin. but if you stand up to them then theyll back off.
Reply:As a former Hockey skater, yeah there are alot of cute girls out on the ice, why when I was your age...

Seriously, they should not be touching you. An accidental bump or graze is one thing, but if they are putting their hands on you tell the rink employees.

You might also try bringing your dad to skate with you sometime, that'll scare them off for a while.
Reply:Okay -- I *think* you're saying that you're 13 and when you go ice-staking ... boys stare at you, touch you, and kind of "hit on you"... and you're asking what can you do about it.

Honestly... not much - you can't stop them from LOOKING at you. Just stay away from them and ignore them if you don't want their attention.
Reply:k...they should NOT be touching you at all...even if it's on the arm! If you feel uncomfortable or annoyed, tell an adult and they should be able to take care of things for you. Don't ever let a guy do anything you don't want him to do to you.

Ice skating?? HELPP!!!?

what would you wear to go ice skating??

i want to look nice but not too over dressed thanks =]

im 16 aswell =D

Ice skating?? HELPP!!!?
Just wear what you normally wear for examples:

Jeans (Btw they dont get wet)

Top (Short sleeve or Long sleeves)

Leg warmers (If possible)

Scarf (If possible)

Gloves (If possible)

That's what I normally wear anyway..

lOl.

Hope I helped *=]
Reply:dnt wear jeans as when they get wet they take ages to dry

i love to wear a skirt with thick wooly leggings/tights and even leg warmers to,

but if you dont like wearing a skirt then wear some combats, or something,

and made sure you wear sleeves of some sort cause your'll get cold!
Reply:I'd wear a thick funky tee, some skinny jeans (I've never seen a wet spot from ice skating...) and maybe some arm warmers. but that's my own style. have fun!
Reply:Black jeans. Any other colour will show an obvious wet mark when you fall over... and you will fall over! You could wear a coloured turtleneck with a cute little vest over the top to funk it up a bit. Or if you want to play it safe, wear all black with a cute cute colour beret or beanie.

What will i pay in ice skating SM MOA if you have your own skating shoes?

i have my own ice skating shoes but i dont know if i have to pay the hours, the entrance, and locker. but i've seen some people enter at the back of ice skating rink from there they left their bag and play on ice rink all time. i want that way

What will i pay in ice skating SM MOA if you have your own skating shoes?
as far as i know, you will still pay the full price. the amount is for the rentals of the ice rink and not the skates. the back of the rink is like changing area / office / maintenance. those people are usually competitors / coaches who compete here or abroad and they also pay just like you. they can't go in unnoticed because there is a skating shop thats situated at the back of the area and it has a good view of the entrance to the rink. so it is quite impossible that these skaters entered "illegally"
Reply:Why do the wrong way if you can do it the leagl way.

Ice skating tips?

whenever I go ice skating, I dont fall but its hard for me to go anywhere! i know you do one foot at a time and kinda put ur weight on the foot and push out diagonally but it seems I barely go anywhere...any advice?

Ice skating tips?
Try to push out with the inner edge of your blade and more towards your heel rather than toe pick. Keep your skating knee bent and your free leg straight back following through with emphasis on pushing out on the heel.

When you're doing the strokes, one knee will always be bent and your head shouldn't be bobbing up and down. This will be the most efficient way to spend your energy.

Remember to have the boot fit properly with lacing moderately tight. You don't want to be collapsing to your inside edges with the skating foot.

And finally, rental skates suck! Their blades are never sharp enough. Maybe you could request for one with sharper blades.

Good luck and hope that helps!
Reply:It's sad but true.......rental skates are as dull as butter knives.

When you get a pair of skates at the rink, run your finger lightly across the edge...if it doesn't feel like a VERY sharp knife like your best kitchen knife, ask for another pair...and another pair until you find one that feels sharp..(don't even bother to try them on unless you think you could seriously lose blood....they rotate how often skates are sharpened...............

no skater either in hockey or figure, can skate without an edge..it's what you push against to get momentum....

If you're loving the sport go on ebay and find yourself a pair of Reidel's in your size.(generally one size larger than shoe size, your toe should touch the skate closer than a shoe_..then get them sharpened before you step on the ice......... VOILA

your movement problem solved...now you have to learn the snowplow to stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Reply:Do you have hockey skates or figure skates?Figure skates allow you to cheat a little bit by driving off with the picks. It's important to remember that skates are sharpened with a concave shape that gives you an inner and an outer edge. When you are driving off from a start with your inside edge on the trailing skate(the one that's back)You should try to have a slight slant in your leading skate,so that it is riding on one edge.Transfer your weight to the leading skate as you come to the end of your push.Push,lift,glide.With practice you will learn to do this instinctively.Beginners have difficulty keeping their skates tracking because of these edges.Have a friend who can skate help you . Make sure that you have well-fitted skates and keep them sharp.Have fun.

Layering clothes is cute too

Ice skating lessons??

I want to try ice skating,, but I'm scared that people will laugh at me because I'm turning 15 this dec. And I think I'm old for it if I'm going to try at the beginning...

Ice skating lessons??
if skating is what you want to do, go for it! nobody will laugh at you for following your dreams. there are people start learning to skate at pretty much any age (well, ok, I've never met someone who started younger than 1 or older than 75). you're never too old to start skating.

you might want to look into taking group lessons at first because they're cheaper than private lessons and you meet other people at the same level.

good luck with skating and have fun!
Reply:Don't worry about it. I have a friend she turning 15 on Oct. and she just started taking lessons last April. She started doing competitions now though. She falls from time to time but it doesnt bother her. If you really want to do it, you shouldn't care what people think.
Reply:Go ahead and try some group lessons at your local rink. People aren't going to laugh at your because you are almost 15. They have group lessons for different age groups so you will be with other kids close to your age. Don't worry about it, go ahead and try skating!
Reply:im 14 i just started last febuary, i was 13...in my class ther are 9,10... - 12 doesnt matter cause i made friends with them. but im also short so i ook like im 12....neways dont worry bout it, its fine, if u wanna try it, then do it!
Reply:I coach skating and while yes, the majority of people starting are kids, a lot of older kids and adults start learning to skate too! See if your nearest rink offers teen or adult classes. Our rink will let teens join adult classes so that they don't have to be with a bunch of 6 year olds.

As long as you are having fun and enjoying learning a new sport, who cares what other people think? I hope that you do take up skating. You'll love it!
Reply:You are never too old for skating. Sure, those competitors you see on TV at the elite level are in their late teens or early twenties and have been skating since they were walking. That doesn't mean you can't start and enjoy skating for yourself.

You can start at any age, in fact, "adult" skating is becoming huge as people take up skating when they are older. There are competitions, get togethers, seminars, synchro teams, etc for adults. Adults are 18 and up. Believe me, their are retired folks out there, I mean 18 and up.

There are other competitions and events for just about every age level too, beginner through experienced.

Johnny Weir started skating when he was 12. He's quite the exception, starting at that age and winning 3 US championship titles within 10 years, but it shows you can start skating at any age and get some enjoyment out of it. Who knows where you will go.
Reply:definitly not! go for it! sometimes you have an advantage when youre older, because you can learn things and understand a lot quicker then the little ones. i had a friend who began in her senior year of high school, and shes still skating after 2 years and loves it! shes even thinking of trying out for the ice girls, which is a group of skaters who show up at hockey games and stuff. trust me, the sport is ageless, and you can love it at any age! youd be surprised how many girls start around your age. ive got a ton at my rink. you can sign up for a teen or adult class at your rink, and youll be able to meet other people at your level who are older. it will be great! gooooooood luck!
Reply:Look into taking a group class! They are offered by levels and age groups - so it's quite possible you would be amongst others around your age (you can ask what ages have signed up for the next class!). There are adult beginner classes (I know people who started in their 20's all the way up to 70+) - so 15 is not "old". (Side note, I started waaaaay later than you!).

No one will laugh at you. Anyone there is there to learn. If anything, everyone is in the same boat at the beginning, so they will be comforted that others like them are in the class. It'll be neat to share these skating experiences together!

Besides, group classes are the cheapest way to go!

Best of luck - I hope you will go for it!!

Ice Skating Date?

Going on an ice skating date. Not sure what to wear? was thinking yoga pants and a cute top, but then what shoes should i wear with it?(for before iceskating and after) i think it would look a bit silly with sneakers? but then it'd look silly with high heels also?!

Ice Skating Date?
If I was going on an ice skating date I wouldn't wear yoga pants. I think they're a bit too formal. I'm a figure skater and unless I plan on practicing while I'm there I wear a pair of jeans with a bit of stretch to them. If you fall alot then I can understand not wanting to wear an item of clothing that will get wet and stay wet, but for a date you want to look cute. I think jeans and a cute top are more wearable if you decide to go somewhere after. To the rink I would wear a cute sweater if you don't want to wear a bulky sweatshirt. As for shoes, unless the guy is very metro he probably won't notice, so wear whatever is cute and comfortable.

Addressing the day date thing... I don't think that's true. I've been on dates during the day, they just aren't as formal. I think the real determiner is if the guy pays for you. The only place I've ever heard of a date during the day being not a real date is from the movie "Just Friends".
Reply:Aww... I'm sorry. :-( Who wants a guy who doesn't take the innitiative to be a gentleman anyway? Report It

Reply:Well what's wrong with jeans? It's cold in the ice rink (or outside, depending on where you're going). Yoga pants aren't practical. Jeans would make sense and you can still look cute.
Reply:whatever you wear should be comfortable and not get too wet if you fall. dress in layers, but plan it so you still look nice without the sweater/sweatshirt/jacket/whatever you wear on top. (in case you get too warm).

a casual look is good. you don't want to overdress.

a thin pair of knitted gloves might also be a good idea in case your hands get cold.

one EXTREMELY IMPORTANT thing: if you are renting skates, do not wear ankle socks. wear longer socks that will give your feet and especially your ankles some padding. (trust me-- my friend and I both wore quarter socks with rental skates once. never again!)

(note: it can too be a date in the daytime. it just depends whether you and the guy are thinking of it as a date or not.)

good luck and happy skating!
Reply:Yoga pants, and top along with a jacket, gloves, and thin socks are a good idea. Jeans aren't good to wear on the ice because when you fall they get wet and cold, and jeans don't stretch well. I would probably just wear some sneakers, it shouldn't be a big deal. Good luck!
Reply:You've got the right idea. Jeans aren't going to allow you to be flexible and if they get wet from falling, they don't dry easily. If you're skating at an indoor rink, they're usually kept around 50-degrees. If you're worried about what to wear for other parts of the date, maybe just bring some jeans along and change into them after skating. Don't forget gloves or mittens!
Reply:If i were you i would wear comfy ugg-style boots

there great for your feet (when there aching!)
Reply:well if its in the day then its only as friends, if your not already dating him.

try and get out of that friends zone.

and wear joggers cuase uu got to wear socks anyways,

good luck and dont go to the friends zone.

Ice skating or ballet?

I ove ice skating and ballet but which is my favourite because I have to quit one but which one? HELP?!

Ice skating or ballet?
I think you should quit ballet and continue ice skating, because ice skating will use your ballet skills, but ballet won't really use your ice skating skills.
Reply:i think ballet ! Report It

Reply:u poor thing that u hav 2 choose, I think I'd continu ice skating, if I could do either lol
Reply:i have to say ice skating
Reply:Hum that's a really tough one. Personally I like ballet better, but both sports really compliment eachother. Stick with ice skating because it's like two for one?

Good Luck!
Reply:ballet you can skate much later in life than you can jump roundlike a fairy, when you hit 50 probably will still be ice skating but I cant i mean wont imagine a 50 year in a tutu with false hips and varacous veins like the london underground map stickwith skating
Reply:Ice Skating Of Course
Reply:do which one u love best
Reply:Which are you the most advanced in and can go further with in a career?I would choose the one that I know I could become a major star in.Since I do not know how well you do with either one I can't give you an answer without crushing your hopes.Tell me how well you do in both before I can give you an honest opinion.
Reply:Ballet will give you a grounding for all types of dancing in the future, so keep it.

You can always skate on the weekends.
Reply:much prefer ice skating
Reply:I would do the Ice skating because you could dance on skates!that way you can do both!!!
Reply:I say quit the ice skating. I love it, and it's fun, but unless you go to the Olympics, the Ice Capades is all that is ahead of you. For ballet, there are lots of dancing shows you could get into, and it could give you "experience" for other types of dancing if you decide to branch off. Ice skating will always be on the ice, which will isolate your skills too much. Anyway, you can always ice skate for fun with friends but how many friends can ballet dance with you (and be good at it!) Drop the skates, keep the toe shoes!
Reply:Cant do either. like football tho
Reply:don`t ask me make your own mind up
Reply:Hmmm..it's hard to choose though. I LOVE both...can't help ya.

Ice skating??

How much would an ice skating lesson cost?

Ice skating??
The rink in Melbourne that I can find is Olympic Ice Skating Center.

http://www.icerink.com.au/figure_skating...

If you're a beginner, you'll start with Aussie Skate Programme. I would think that this programme is better than private lessons at such an early stage.

http://www.icerink.com.au/begginers.htm

"The program is conducted in 2 age groups, 5-8 and 9-12 years, and has been specifically designed to enable everyone to progress at their own pace, with the opportunity to move into specialty skating if they wish. The cost is $50.00 for a 5 week click card ($10.00 per lesson), with the first lesson FREE. Tuition must be paid in full prior to the second lesson. No booking is required."

That sure sounds worth it. I'm sure they can cater to older skaters too.

The web didn't say much about private lessons, but that there are private coaches and that students can utilise that figure skating sessions that the rink offers. I would say that the sessions will cost separately.

http://www.icerink.com.au/sessions.htm

I think that more information will be available on the web and it's better for you to go check it out. If that's the only rink in your area, I guess you'll have to settle for that, right?

Skating can be expensive as you progress, but determination will pull you through any sport. =)
Reply:depends on...

- the level of the skater

- the club

- the coach

- the length of the lesson
Reply:Its different where you live then where some one else lives.

you should just ask around. ( =
Reply:The costs do vary depending on where you live, and whether you do private or group lessons. Private lesson rates are set by the coach depending on their experience, and training level. Private lessons typically cost about $10-$15 per 15 minute lesson, plus ice time which is usually $5-$10 per hour session. Group lessons usually are $30-$40 for a three week session which you skate twice a week for 25-30 minutes.
Reply:A private lesson is usually a dollar a minute. If you are just starting out, I would take group lessons just to get the feel for it. After you are doing maybe a 2 foot spin, I would consider getting a coach. Group lessons cost about 300 dollars for 12 weeks. It all depends on where you live and your rink.
Reply:Okay, it all depends. Here are what I pay....

Skates-350

Blades-100

Ice Time-105 per week

1 coach-175 per month

2 coach-200 per month

3 coach-65 per month

4 coach-100 per month

Music-depends on long/short

Dresses/practice wear-100-300 per outfit(mostly 200)

Tests-15-50 depending on level

Competitions-depends on what competition

I skate 7 hours a week so it will vary with you.
Reply:depends where you live..
Reply:In my area, group classes go by the sessions that last 6-8 weeks. Each lesson comes to about $12-$15 dollars - which usually includes skate rentals (if not, just a couple bucks more . . . with a free public session for that lesson day and perhaps some more public session passes. Check with your rink - different rinks vary. It really is the least expensive way to learn how to skate . . . once you feel you need to move on, you can get a private coach at any time.

Private coach fees vary too. Generally, the higher the rank, the higher the fees. It also depends on how long your lesson would be (15-20-30+ minutes). Where I live, it can be anywhere between $25 to almost $50 (per lesson)!! And it's not just the coach you pay . . . you have to pay for your admission to the rink (whether it's a public session - $6-$8, or later on, a freestyle session $7-$10). If you will be using rental skates, that's another few bucks there.

Hope that helps!
Reply:well where i live private lessons are around 10 pounds per 15 minutes not including rink rental usually.group lessons are cheaper like 60 a term all together.

although i live in england..

Ice skating :)?

Hi! I used to ice skate regularly for a year or two from the ages of 11-13. I had lessons and was quite good! Since I quit lessons i'd only go every 6 months or so. However I now haven't been for two years (i'm 17 now). I'm really worried I won't even be able to stand up! Has anyone had any experience with not going for so long after being quite good, and any tips for me?!!

Thanks!

Ice skating :)?
You may be slightly shaky at first, but your muscles will remember how to skate and it shouldn't be too bad.
Reply:OMG! I had that same scare just this week. I skated from when i was 8-11. I'm 13 now, since January 20, but I was surprised to find out i could stroke, do flips, sit spins, and scratch spins.
Reply:I always ice skate!!Just dont be afraid to fall and try to keep at your own slow and steady pace. Once you get the hang of it youll love it.

Later! ;P
Reply:I stopped figure skating for 6 years! People have told me that I'm more graceful on skates than on my feet walking. I recently started skating again, and even for me, it was kind of awkward. You will be very uncomfortable for the first few laps, and you may have to reteach yourself how to crossover or stroke, but you'll get it back. It's kind of like riding a bike.
Reply:Well.....

Make sure you review all of the ice-skating basics such as the 3-step turn, the choctaw, and the mohawk, and the waltz jump. Also learn how to skate backwards again and do the two-footed spin in second position before you do any advanced spins (like the camel spin or the cannonball spin).

When you get better, you can try some of the other difficult moves like the single lutz or the single toe loop, and also try a straight-line footwork routine.

Hope that all of that gets your ice skating on track.
Reply:I can deff. relate to this!! I am 20 years old and i've been skating since i was 6 years old. I was a competitive synchro skater (i just quit this year) and i've traveled the world in competitions.

I went from skating 10-15hours a week to not skating at all!!! So when i got back on the ice after 6-10months it was deffinetly hard. I no longer had ANY of the skills i use to have and it felt really shitty to have worked for so many years and now it was all lost. However i am now skating twice a week, nothing too hard, just for fun, and it is comming back. So trust me it will come back if you want it too. It will be hard at the beginning but after a while you'll notice you feel like you have more balance and you'll start doing what you used to do!!

Dont worry and just go out and have fun!!! Just dont put any pressure on yourself.... Enjoy the feel of the ice and you'll do fine.

I got that off the link below on another page, so I have put that link in as well.

Hope this helps. :-)

I think the one mentioned by Pete S might be your nearest.
Reply:there is one near the place were they held a wwe event but i dont know where or anything but its in the centre
Reply:There is not been a ice rink in Liverpool since the 1980s. The next nearest in in Queensferry. The ice rink is in Deeside Leisure Centre and probably the best way to get there is by car, its just off the A55
Reply:The only one I know of is at Deeside Leisure Centre. It's quite a way out; in Queensferry, just over the Welsh border. Lovely big rink, though.

Ice Skating-is it too late?

I am 14 and really want to start ice skating lessons. I put my name on a waiting list but they say it could take up to a year until I get a place. Will it be too late by then, when I am 15?

thanks

Ice Skating-is it too late?
no way! you are never too old to start! well unless youre like 60 or something :]

i started at 4 and im 14 now. but my best friend at the rink has only been skating a year! and she's almost as good as i am. i would suggest that if you have to wait, start training now. try out some ballet to build up some strength. look at online videos to mentally learn as much as you can. it helps tremendously! if you dont want to take ballet or anything like that. take some yoga or pilates. basically, keep in great shape, jump roap, try to get comfortable with falling (when you fall NEVER put down an elbow or something to break your fall. fall on your butt!), and like i said, youtube is a great "textbook" if you watch fs on tv, thats great, if you dont, START! its cool and you can get an idea of basic elements you will learn. (you will not be jumping in your first week! so dont think youre going to be great at first, i cant stress more to master basic skating skills! like crossovers, one foot glides, 3-turns, and edge work) build up those legs!

oh, and if you are really dieing to learn fast, i would reccoment lessons about 3 times a week. oh, and if you dont already have skates, get custom boots. they make all the difference! and tie them TIGHT!

and last but not least, good luck! skating is the most amazing thing in the world. and its not all about doing the jumps and spins, its about the feeling you get when your blades melt that ice! seriously, gliding is the closest thing to flying! its way cool you want to learn :]
Reply:I shouldn't think so. The dancing on ice stars really grow in such a short space of time and they are usually much older than you.
Reply:No of course not. You are young and supple, go for it.
Reply:No Ice Skating isn't to late!

You just practice a lot, get some lessons, and coach.

You have to stick to ice skating!

If you have the guts to do it, DO IT !

Is there any ice skating place suitable for children who are under 8 yeras old ?

I would like to let my son to try ice-skating since we never try before. I would like to choose a less crowded ice skating field for my son to play this sport. He is currently playing roller blade.

Is there any ice skating place suitable for children who are under 8 yeras old ?
well there are a few things you can try... you can either sign him up for skating lessons at your local skating club where he can learn in a fun group atmosphere from professionals... or you can take him to public skating (where he most likely wouldnt learn as much)... the only other option would be to rent out ice time (expensive) where you can teach him yourself with no one else on the ice! hope that gives you some ideas... and good luck!
Reply:Any rink should have lessons starting at age 4+.

(The Group Lessons)

Go to your local rink.
Reply:it depends wear you live ..........But i skate at the Ice Plex
Reply:Well it depends on the rink in your area. My rink has open skates from 8:15am till 2:15pm and usually the only people there are the pros max of about 15 people I'd say, anyways the earlier the less people there are , go and check out times and ask them how many people show up. I personally don't like goign to open skates with lots of people because it's a little nerver racking because there are so many people and because the ice gets so torn up.
Reply:well, there is a rink called skatetown and it is in central roseville, but definitely don't go on saturdays.there is also a much less busy and it is called iceland which is in downtown, sacramento.

good luck!
Reply:It depends on where you live. In Burbank, CA, Pickwick Ice is a good place to start. I started skating there when I was five, and the lessons are nice. There are tot classes for ages 3-5. Tey are during public sessions, but they are coned off so other skaters can't enter the lesson area.
Reply:well you can get him group lessons at your local rink , it is not crowed at all during lessons. The ages are from age 4 and up.
Reply:you mean a real one???or a game??

Ice Skating and my crush...?

My crush gave me his number on the last day of school. I haven't called him yet and I am waiting so I can ask him out in my first phone call. I want to ask him to got ice skating with me and a couple of my other friends. He told during clas about how busy he is going to be: fishing, work, vacation... I really don't like getting rejected, that would suck. Should I ask him???!!!!!

PLEASE HELP! I am open to anything.....

Ice Skating and my crush...?
HMM I mean there is a reason why he gave you his number.. he wants you to call him. And if you wre impotant to him... he would probably open up his schedule and fit you in. Call him or maybe Instant Message him.
Reply:No, because he admitted himself he is pretty busy. Guys feel pushed when a girl asks them out when she already knows he is busy.
Reply:If its possible, text him. I'm trying to get up the courage to do the same thing. You could say something like, "Hey! Me and a couple friends are going ice skating at such and such a place today and i was wondering if you'd like to come?" This way if he can't it won't be rejection, and he'll remember that you care. Good Luck with it!
Reply:Then why did he give you his number is he says that he's going to be sooooooo 'busy'?
Reply:well if your really nervous if its his cell number you could text him and ask him that way it would be easier on you

Ice Skating Party?

I need Ideas for an ice skating party. [not hockey] for a girl turning 12

Ice Skating Party?
Well depends on how much you would want to do. The girls can meet at your house and you can do hair and makeup together just like figure skaters do (or nails/makeovers). You can dress up in figure skating outfits (that one may be hard especially if ya'll dont have any) You can have fake gold medals... or coins (should be easier to find since its valentines day...) you can make up tricks to do on ice... those are just the ones I thought of off the top of my head. But good luck and have fun!!
Reply:Um.. go to the ice rink then skate?

Sounds like a good plan..

Ice skating??

where do people train for ice skating if the nearest rink is like 2 long train rides away

Ice skating??
Ice skating is pretty darn addicting and you find yourself going to great lengths to skate, or even buying skates that cost more than your first car.

I really feel for you living so far away from a rink. I do know people who come a long ways to skate at ours so it just depends on whether you love the sport enough to devote that kind of time and money to it.
Reply:im a competitive skater so i go to what ever ice rink i can find with enough practice time. and of course the one that my private coach is at. if its something you really want to do try it. look to see if there is one closer.
Reply:I use to stay with other skaters/coaches who lived nearby to train at top class training centers, which is about 2 hours away from me.
Reply:Its All about dedication.

Depends on how much you want to Do it.

I have to travel 45 minutes yto get to my ice rink every week.
Reply:They need to travel =S most of figure skaters that dont have a rink near their house travel every week. If you really want to do it, well, GO FOR IT!=D

Ice Skating levels, passing, etc...?

Hi! Around 4 years ago, i quit ice skating. But now, I wanna learn again. But, since i quit, do i have to restart all of the levels (Alpha, Beta, etc..)? or can I just keep continuing on what i did? And,, how long does it take to pass each level? 1 month? 2 months? and, is it possible to skip a level?

Ice Skating levels, passing, etc...?
well the preliminary skater above me, im sorry to say is incorrect. You can pick up right where you left off but you definitely cannot skip levels, in USFSA or in ISI. ive skated in both. although ISI your coach tests you instead of a group of judges, your coach still needs to test you and give you the badges for each level, so there is no skipping. skating is cumulitive, meaning things you have learned in the past, you will need to know for future moves so it is important to know how and be good at things you have already tested in. also it is important to be a strong competitor (not as much in ISI) being able to do the moves expected of you when competing in that level.

Your coach can help you out in determining where you at and if you are ready to test for the next level.
Reply:Okay- I am a preliminary skater- so trust me. If you quit skating for a period of time, you can rejoin and pick up right where you left of IF you remember all the moves you have previously done. And, it is possible to skip levels. All you have to do for that is to know all the moves you must complete in that level. Your coach will determine that. Good luck!

Ice Skating?

ok im a complete begginer at it and i mean i can stand up and go forward lol my balence isnt that great yet but im working on it .

but yer i want to be in a team for ice skating but how can i get myself good enough because i cant afford private lessons and will i ever be able to be pro some day

Ice Skating?
I would get involved in a group lesson program. The lessons are cheaper than private lessons, but can work just as well as long as you practice. Get to the rink a few times a week. Maybe make some friends there who can help you out with things while you're not in lessons.

Being a "pro" skater can mean a few different things. A professional can be a skater who competed on a national and world level or a skater who skated in a traveling show (Disney on Ice) or a skater who wants to teach that joins a professional skaters organization. Either way you go, it takes many years of hard work and practice.
Reply:Find some other people to get tips from and practice with them as much as you can.
Reply:Take a group class or see if any of your friends have ice skating experience and can help you.
Reply:practice %26amp; get used to the ice.

Tips for Basic Ice skating???

I want to learn to Ice skate because i like to try my every choice. I have tried to Ice skate but sadly, I have just fallin on my butt. Any tips that can keep me on my feet?

Tips for Basic Ice skating???
well, you should bend your knees, dont look at the ice, try to keep balance and the most important thing: dont be afraid to fall!!=D
Reply:i dont know

ice skating is lame
Reply:tight your skates really good you probably have them loose and start off slow
Reply:Start slow. Not trying to do anything fancy. Bend your knees and push (use an ice walker at first if needed). You might want to consider taking lessons. If you are embarrased about your age difference to the other people in the beginners class DON'T BE. I started aphla (one of the beginners levels) when i was in 7th grade. And now less than a year later i'm with girls my age in freestyle (the advanced levels)!! I'm so happy I started because its become a passion of mine! I encourage you to practice a little on your own at open skate and then sign up for lessons =]

Just practice practice practice and soon you won't be falling on your butt! Haha =D hope I helped!!

Good luck with your skating!

-laura♥
Reply:Bend your knees. You also want to take one stroke at a time and just glide. I am in figure skating and if you do some strength exercises on you ankles it will help also. Hell raises really helped me just look on line for how to do them. It will also take some time to learn how to skate. Try to do balancing exercises at home and also make sure your skates are tight enough. They should fit like a glove if they are too big it will affect your skating.
Reply:here's a link to an ice skating question i asked

http://ca.answers.yahoo.com/question/ind...

hope it helps!
Reply:dnt fall
Reply:keep your knees bent and move your feet going faster maked keeping your balance easier
Reply:just relax and dont get nervous! remember to always bend your knees ( this will keep you in balance ) practice moving slowly first! just dont be afraid to fall! its a part of learning! dont mind the people around watching you, its okay to fall!

and remember this very important thing! HAVE FUN!!!
Reply:Push your legs out one at a time and glide and bend your legs so you can balance better. Your non-dominate (weak) leg should go out first and your strong leg should support it than follow through by switching your right to left, left to right, right to left, etc. Also stay away from the rails, staying away from it will actually help because if you keep on holding onto it, you won't learn.

there is no difference.. just have fun and bundle up.
Reply:If you can roller skate, you can ice skate
Reply:Just be careful, wear layers of clothes to stay warm and have a lot of fun!
Reply:If you can roller skate, you can ice skate. Just make sure you bundle up.
Reply:be sure to wear gloves and a helmet. Make sure to wear long socks so that the skate do not scrape your ankles. And always bend your kness if you feel like you're going to fall so that you don't fall backwards.
Reply:Stay to the outside, out of other skaters way, wear gloves or mittens, even if your skating inside, This will help you to use your hands when you fall, (and you will fall) instead of your elbows.

Ice skating.?

Are there any ice skating rinks in delhi??

Ice skating.?
AFTER the success of amusement parks and water parks, it's now the turn of snow parks to hit the country's entertainment sector.

October 2 will see the opening of the country's first large-scale snow park to be situated at the Delhi-Gurgaon border. A 50:50 joint venture of the Rs 35-crore Polo Group of Companies with Patine Corporation, Japan and Leisure Industries Co, Japan, it is for the first time that snow park technology will now be available in India and can be bought by small investors too.

The technology being offered by the joint venture company Polo Pantine Leisure Pvt Ltd., comes to India at an investment of Rs 5.5 crore and offers complete snow park solutions including construction, equipment, installation and management.

The snow park in Gurgaon will also serve as the showroom for the company. It is to be spread over a 2,000 square metre area with a floor area of at least 60,000 square feet. The facility will include an 800 sq. mt ice-skating rink and an auditorium with a seating capacity for 800 spectators. The snow park will mainly concentrate on recreational, sports and

leisure activities for the spectators, including ice skating, figure skating, snow skiing, ice hockey, snow circus, snow games and so on.

According to the company, a complete picture of Antarctica will be created at the park showcasing flora, fauna and lifestyle of the region. A 110-metre long indoor ski slope will be available for skiing, tubing and sledging.

Polo group's Polo Consultancy Pvt. Ltd already provides services and consultancy regarding the setting up of theme parks and water parks in the country. With the latest venture into snow parks, Polo Group hopes to capture a substantial chunk of the snow park market, which it estimates at Rs 1,000 crore.

"There are around a 100 amusement and water parks in the country, we think each of these would have a snow park as well in the future. A large part of the business will be in the sports arena with the setting up of ice-skating and other Olympic snow sports. We are looking at around 30 ice-skating rinks and 10 ski slopes across the country,'' says the Managing Director of the Polo Group, Mr Balwant Chawla.

He explains that every year amusement parks in the country attract 600 million visitors, with snow parks the numbers will increase phenomenally.

The joint venture company projects business worth Rs 100 crore in the first year of operations as it has put in place a small investor business plan. "For Rs 70 lakh onwards, small investors could buy snow technology products including portable igloos and in-house snowfall play areas for small cities, fairs and shopping malls. We already have eight to nine financial buyers waiting to experience our snow park and showroom before they sign on for a similar venture,'' says Mr Chawla. He envisages snow parks coming up in Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Nagpur and Mumbai in the first year itself.

Polo Pantine Leisure Pvt Ltd will also work towards setting up snow parks and ice-skating facilities in the sub-continent, West Asia and Central Asia on a turnkey basis.

All the best :)

Reply:Hm..i dont htink so..i ve tried it b4 in Beijing..its so fun. if there is one in india it will have to be in New delhi... but stillc ant be sure.. If they are to build one it will take probably 2yrs!!!!!!!!!

Ice Skating Rink Regulations?

I was wondering if anyone knew what website would contain information regarding ice skating rink regulations for owning and operating?

Ice Skating Rink Regulations?
Here are a few you can check:

http://www.ice-world.com/en/vragen_en.ht...

http://www.recmanagement.com/features.ph...

Ice rinks are expensive to own and operate. They need to be located in an area where there are enough people to support them. They should offer public skating, group lessons, private lessons, freestyle sessions, and hockey and keep things balanced so that one group isn't favored over another. As an ice skater, I really hate rinks that cater mostly to hockey and provide chopped up ice for the rest of us.

Ice skating!!!!?

Whats the best way to get into ice skating?

I dont know anything but id like to get into it and maybe do competitions!!!

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ice skating!!!!?
start out with group lessons as they are good for all ages and cater to all the levels. they will teach you the basic skills you need, and can lead into figure skating, ice hockey, which ever dicipline you decide to learn. sometimes there are little competitions within skate schools just to get you used to performing infront of others. its also nice to be skating with people at the same level as you and you can make lotsa friends :) as you get more confident and go up in the levels then you could think about getting private lessons. at some stage you will need to buy your own skates. i waited about 6 months and stuck with rentals (not fun i know) until i knew i would be continuing skating and bought some skates. dont buy skates as soon as you sign up cos you might not continue skating long enough to justify spending hundreds of dollars on skates...

good luck :) i hope you have fun!

Happy Skating!
Reply:You don't say if you can already skate or not. You would need lessons. If you want to do it professionally, you would need a coach, and that often means living elsewhere. It's quite expensive - you need a coach, a choreographer, costumes, etc. Often skaters receive support from the skating club in their region, so start there.

Check out this site for more info

i love it lots! go there!

can you please answer this for me please? :

Reply:i think ice skating would be fun
Reply:ice skating can be a really good date in the way that it allows for contact because if you are inexperienced, you're usually looking to cling to someone. hopefully you don't complain because if someone isn't good, they fall a few times, or the skates hurt their feet then things can get cranky real fast. bowling and gallery hopping are fun too.
Reply:italian
Reply:Ice Skating is an awesome idea. It's not necessarily original but it is fun and would be a good date.
Reply:Ice skating sounds cool... Cinema would be original to... Bye!
Reply:That's cool, specially if the place you go the DJ plays some romantic songs. But don't forget that if he can't ice skating you can end up the date in a hospital.

Ice skating clothes ideas?

Ok so i'm going ice skating with some friends tomorrow. But here's the problem I don't know what to wear! I have a black beanie black gloves and a black scarf lol too much black! Anyways what should i wear with this stuff and should i go without the scarf? Thanks in advance!

P.s the clothes ideas should be cute lol

Ice skating clothes ideas?
Any excessive attire is a hazard. Unless you tie your scarf in a knot, you can't take the chance of it falling off.

Wear anything, jeans, sweater, light jacket. You want to be able to move around, and be warm enough, too. Gloves is a good idea. The ice feels like a burn when you fall and run your hands on the ice, you do need gloves. A hat too can be a hazard if it comes off. It can trip up someone, unless you can tie it around your neck. Don't dress to be cute, dress to be warm and flexible. Have fun, but be safe!! You can get hurt out there.
Reply:Hm, well when you're ice skating, you want to wear something comfortable to skate in, so I would wear some cute tweed shorts with either leggings or tights. Then wear a cute top or colorful layered sweaters witht he scarf and beanie. Don't wear the gloves unless you have to. They are easy to sakte in, but they look really weird. No offense. :D well good luck hope i could help!
Reply:wear a yellow shirt with a grey sweater/jacket on top!
Reply:maybe like layer lots of colorful and white shirts o keep u warm with a white sweater and like jeans maybe if they rnt to thick leggings under!

hope i helped

oh and layers for like if u get hot u can take em off bt srtill have cothes on lol!
Reply:yeah, I would get rid of the scarf, it gets annoying... wear a nice blue/green (possibly layered?!?) top with nice skinny jeans and adorable matching leggings :D or tights with black shorts and a yellow or green top

Ice skating?

how many calories per minute do you burn from ice skating?

Ice skating?
Ice skating: 11 per minute

(but really it depends on WHAT you're doing on the ice)

http://www.alldietsource.com/DietPlan/Ex...

250-810 per hour for recreational skating

Up to 450-1,080 per hour for competitive skating

(of course, divide those figures by 60 to gte per minutes, but again, it depends on what you're doing on the ice)

http://www.usfigureskating.org/Programs....
Reply:If you just skate around in circles and do not do anytricks you burn 660 and thenif you are doing tricks it is about 1300 calories burnt so ask you can see you can that doing tricks is way better than just skating around
Reply:IDK, why do you care!
Reply:It depends on how much you weight and what you are doing while skating. These websites may be helpful in getting your average while skating. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/calories...

http://www.healthyweightforum.org/eng/ca...

http://health.utah.gov/lhd/tooele/Commun...
Reply:It depends on how much YOU weigh and how vigorously you skate.

If you weigh 100 pounds and skate slowly, you'll burn about 4-5 calories per minute (CPM); speed it up a bit and you can burn 7-8 CPM. Competitive figure skaters use 11-12 CPM.

Competitive figure skaters will perform programs with a variety of movements that float between gliding (almost no calories) and spinning/jumping (lots of calories.)

You'd need to average the different exertions done during the whole time on the ice to get a better feel for exactly how many calories are being used at any one time.

Who here does ice skating?

Do you do it for fun? or are you taking lessons?

What grade are you at if you take lessons?

What makes you do it?

What do you like about it?

What do you think about it?

My thoughts:

I LOVE iceskating with a passion. I love it because it is so energetic and fun, and it looks so graceful and impressive. Ive been taking lessons for 6 weeks onw and about to start my grade 3/4.

Ice skating?
Who here does ice skating?

**I've been off the ice for almost 4 years now . . . but hey, I'm still a figure skater!!

Do you do it for fun? or are you taking lessons?

**I took lessons AND it was fun!!! Oh, but I was serious about it!

What grade are you at if you take lessons?

**I am at Adult Gold level (USFSA)

What makes you do it?

**Besides great exercise, and I love "dancing" on ice and entertaining an audience!! Where else am I (at my age) going to get center stage (ice) all too myself where people will actually watch and cheer me on - hee hee!!

What do you like about it?

**It is a sport, but I like to think more of it in terms of dance. I love interpreting music through body movements . . . and with skating you can move across the stage (ice) in ways you can't on the floor. I like to think of jumps and spins as choreographical elements rather than just athletic feats.

What do you think about it?

**I "think" about skating all the time as I don't actually get to skate these days - hee hee. Really, I think it's a great privilege to be a part of this sport. And it's addicting :P!

Best of luck to you and your skating! May your passion for skating take you a long way!!
Reply:I take private lessons 6 days a week! for about 4 hours at the rink

I am past all the basic and freestyle levels so I am not in a level.

I feel different and special doing it because i am the only one in my school that does it! nobody reallt recongnizes the sport cuz not many people do it.

I like feeling the wind in my face on a jump or fast spin. I like practicing becasue i have fun while training.

I dont really think anything except 'just dont fall' every time there is at least one person that i know there(a boy) and i dont want to make a fool out of myself by falling all the time.
Reply:I've been skating since I was 2, so 16 years now and I also coach.

I'm still in the competitive route, so during competition season there is no fun. But in the off season I enjoy it the most.

I don;t understand the USFSA Grades. But in Canada I'm a junior level skater. aka Consistent double axels and some triples

My mom started me in skating just as a way to get exercise and promote healthy living early on. Turns out I was a natural and just excelled

I love the sheer adrenaline form competition. I love the pressure and the thrill.

Skating is my life and I would be nothing without it. It;s going to be a sad sad day when I hang up my skates...
Reply:I skate! I've been skating since I was 12......wish I had a little more to show for all that time though!! :)

I skate for myself. It's my "guilty pleasure" or my place to escape to. I do take lessons and I also teach lessons.....but sometimes when I get bogged down with teaching so much, I have to remember the whole reason I'm skating is for me and I need to remember to make time for ME to skate!

Currently, I'm working on testing adult silver moves in the field (USFSA) and pre-juvenile moves. I'd like to take my adult gold moves soon too. I'm working on getting my doubles consistent!

I do it because I love it. I would never be able to get myself to the gym, so I have to be active doing things rather than chugging away on a treadmill or something. I love the music, in combination with the jumps, spins and artistry -- all wrapped up in a sport! I love the sense of accomplishment when I finally land a jump I have been working on or when I'm able to do a spin I wanted to try. Now that I'm older, I'm less competitive with the other *younger* skaters around me. I'm more focused on my goals and try to remember that they have younger bodies, so things are easier for them and their parents probably have more money to sink into their skating than I do!!!
Reply:I skate 3 or 4 times a week for recreation. I learned as a kid but then started to "relearn" everything a couple of years ago to get my kids on the ice. I do it for fun, it is my zen moving meditation. I'm just much happier after I've been at the rink.

I just started lessons last September to become more confident. It is working nicely and I've registered again. We are all just adults learning in my class. No grade. You ask for what you want to learn and the instructor will show you and anyone else who wants to learn. I'm trying to learn to do front crossovers properly and to skate backwards.

I like the freedom of movement. I like that I don't sweat in the cold rink, I don't like running or exercise where you sweat. I like feeling that I'm mastering my body.
Reply:i take lessons.

im in usfsa level fresskate 2/3 for group lessons n about 5/6 for private lessons.

i just love the feeling of skating, i know what im doing n it maks me feel free.

i think im gonna do this for a looooooooooooong time.
Reply:I did it for the money! ;-) I played pro hockey for years before injury dictated otherwise. I still train some people on occasion but the passion never leaves!

I bet even when you are walking you look at the cracks in the pavement and do cross overs to avoid them!

I do cross overs going roind corners sometimes!

Good luck with the skating!
Reply:Iam on bronze (Testing) can do everythink up to gold that i know of. have had lessons for arounf 4 months plus a coach change.

I do it for the passion, the love and the hard work you have to put in. and for the feel of aclompishment. I love everythink about it, the feeling of been free and no other sport gives the feeling off figure skating.
Reply:I figure skate. For fun, cause I love it. I am taking lessons. Basic 8 and I know some freestyle too

Ice skating in little rock, Arkansas?

I want to take ice skating lessons in lttle rock. does anyone know any places and detials about doing it.

Ice skating in little rock, Arkansas?
Arkansas Skatium

Little Rock, AR 72211

http://www.arkansasskatium.com

(see under Classes - Learn to Skate)

The cheapest way would be to take a group class (the Learn to Skate program. A lot of the detailed info (schedule, price, how the levels work, etc) is on their website. Basically you go to the skating office at the rink and sign up! You can choose to take private lessons as well (much more expensive) . . . you would have to talk to the coach personally about prices and scheduling. The skating office can make recommendations on who to go with and they may have a sheet listing the coaches and their credentials . . . the office may be able to assist setting something up for you (scroll down the Class page for Private Lesson info).

Hope that helps!

Ice skating lessons?

i'm hoping someone can help me i'm looking 4 ice skating lessons in the derbyshire/staffordshire area can any1 help?!? thanks

Ice skating lessons?
Hi there,

The best thing for you to do, is go to your nearest rink and speak to someone on the desk there, almost every rink has a coach that takes group and single lessons at least once a week (usually more).

If your rink doesn't have a coach, they will most deffinatly be able to put you in touch with someone who will be able to travel to your rink to coach you.

Hope this helps you some, if you need anymore information - feel free to email me

Ice skating?

i want to go for a beginners ice skating class....but i need to fill in a form, but in the form they ask me:

Grade of Coaching required

from 1to 8, but what one should i pick, for myself a beginner

Ice skating?
well what level are you at? what is the amount of stuff you can do?
Reply:It sounds like level 1 is the appropriate level.
Reply:you should put level one because if thats to easy for you than they will move you up thats what happened to me when i started 8 years ago
Reply:It depends. If you can do forward stroking a simple two foot spin then you may want to put yourself as a 2 but if you are an absolute beginner than you should put yourself as a 1. If they are talking about USFSA levels than put yourself as a 1 for sure. Your question is a bit unclear...i hope this is what you mean.
Reply:Choose level 1. If you are in the wrong group when you come to the 1st session the coaches will move you to the correct level. It is better to be moved up than down.
Reply:probraly 1-2
Reply:Just put beginner or 1. It sounds like USFSA Basic Skills, you need to start at the beginning.

I'm absolutely, positively sure that even if you wrote down the wrong thing they would know in about 3 seconds after seeing you on the ice, and would move you to the correct class. Don't sweat filling out a form.
Reply:You should most likely put 1 or 2. Im guessing 1 would be like never skated in there life and cant stand on two feet without being a wall hugger like a public session skater. But if thats not you then a 2 or 3. If it is you, I meant no harm by it
